Bollywood Celebrates Janmashtami

Janmashtami, Krishnashtami and Gokulashtami are names of Lord Krishna’s birthday. There are several stories connected to the Lord. When He was born, River Yamuna was flooded and thus Vasudev, His birth father could transfer Him to Cowherd Nand’s home, to protect Him from death by His own Uncle Kamsa. Krishna turned out to be a very naughty child and the Gokul village women would regularly complain to His foster mother, Yashoda.

As He protected Himself and the other kids of Gokul from the demons of Kamsa, He started having His Rasleelas with the Gopis and especially Radha. When He was invited to Dwaraka to emancipate His parents and grandfather from the clutches of the cruel Kamsa, He left Nand’s home to settle in Dwaraka post killing the perpetrator of the crimes. Later, Krishna inspired His friend Arjuna to fight the Kurukshetra war by His Bhagavad Geeta recital. Bhagavad Geeta not only inspired Arjuna then but also has at least a couple of lessons to teach the humanity on the subjects of Dharma and Karma.
