Singer Mukesh’s Death Anniversary

Today is Singer Mukesh’s Death Anniversary. If he had not expired in 1976, he would have been 95 years today. Born Mukesh Chand Mathur in 1923, he is one of the most acclaimed Bollywood playback singers of yore. He mostly sang for late Raj Kapoor, late Sunil Dutt, late Feroz Khan, Dilip Kumar and Manoj Kumar. When Raj Kapoor heard of Mukeshji’s death, he began to cry and said, “I have lost my voice.”

Bollywood and Mukesh:

Here are some of my favorite Bollywood songs sung by Mukeshji:

Ik din bik jayega… Dharam Karam (1975) This song takes pride of place because of the fantastic philosophy in the lyrics. Just beautiful!

Sab kuch seekha humne… Anari (1959)

Chal Sanyasi… Sanyasi (1975)

Hoton pe sachai rehti hai… Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai (1962)

Sawan ka mahina… Milan (1968)

Bas yahi aparadh main… Pehchan (1971)

Chodo kal ki baten… Hum Hindustani (1960)

Chori chori jo tumse mili… Parasmani (1963)

Tum agar mujhko… Dil Hi Toh Hai (1963)

Kai baar yun bhi dekha hai… Rajnigandha (1973)
