Drunken Bollywood

Alcoholism is a disease in developing countries and elsewhere. I feel disgusted when someone takes resort to hard drinks to boost up their confidence or to forget some unhappy situation. There are other instances as well. I wonder how intoxication can help people recover from unpleasant situations.

Bollywood and Drunkards: I don’t like alcohol. For me, alcohol is nothing but a laboratory reagent. However, some Bollywood songs depict alcoholic intoxication and they are worthy of a dekho. This is not just because they have portrayed the intoxication beautifully. The songs may have good lyrics, good music or they might have been rendered well by the singers. Here are some of my favorite songs on intoxication with alcohol:

Raat bhar jam se… Tridev (1989)

Choo lene do nazuk hoton ko… Kaajal (1965)

Aao huzoor tumko… Kismat (1968)

Mujhe duniyawalon sharaabi na samjho… Leader (1964)

Yeh jo mohabbat hai… Kati Patang (1971)

Yeh kya hua… Amar Prem (1972)

Zara sa jhoom loon main… Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995)

Thodi si jo peeli hai… Namak Halal (1982)

Chal mere bhai… Naseeb (1981)

Mujhe peene ka shauq nahin… Coolie (1983)

Peete peete kabhi kabhi… Bairaag (1976)
