Actor Mahmood’s Death Anniversary

Actor Mahmood expired on this day in 2004. If he hadn’t, he would have been 86 today. I was fortunate to meet him. My sister had been to his place to interview him for the Sunday edition of a daily newspaper and I went along with her. He welcomed us so affectionately. I asked him, “Can I call you uncle?” He replied, so sweetly, “You can call me father also.” I wanted to interview him for some magazine or the other. But, the opportunity was never given to me. At least, I got to meet him. I have to feel satisfied with that.

Bollywood and Mahmood: Here are some of my favorite Bollywood songs picturized on him:

Hame kale hain toh kya hua… Gumnaam (1965)

Ek chatur naar karke singaar… Padosan (1968)

Aa ri aa ja nindiya tu le chal kahin… Kunwara Baap (1974)

Chanda o Chanda… Lakhon Mein Ek (1971)

Yeh teri saadgi… Shabnam (1964)

Maine rakha hai mohobbat… Shabnam (1964)

Muthu korikka varihala… Do Phool (1978) I love the last 3 songs the most. Well, almost. I like all of them equally. But, I found the video of only this song from a reliable source on YouTube, which I have posted with this article.
