Film-Maker Yash Johar’s Death Anniversary

Today is Producer Yash Johar’s death anniversary. If he had not expired in 2004 on this day, he would have been 89 today. He began his career in 1952 at Ajanta Arts, i.e. Sunil Dutt’s Production House. Post Mujhe Jeene Do (1963) and Yeh Raaste Hain Pyar Ke (1963); he joined Dev Anand’s Nav Ketan for Guide (1965), Jewel Thief (1967), Prem Pujari (1970) and Hare Rama Hare Krishna (1971). He is the father of Karan Johar and the founder of Dharma Productions in 1976. He was noted for shooting in lavish sets and exotic locales.

Bollywood and Yash Johar: Here are some songs from his movies:

Bane chahe dushman… Dostana (1980) This is one of my favorite songs on friendship.

Jhoomti raat jawan… Duniya (1984)

Aaj humko aadmi ki pehchan ho gayi… Muqaddar Ka Faisla (1987)

I am Krishnan Iyer MA… Agneepath (1990) Mithun Chakraborty is hilarious in this movie trying to speak with a South Indian accent. But, he cannot remove his Bengali accent to replace it with a Malayalee one. 🙂

Main tera aashiq hoon… Gumrah (1993) Sridevi is fantastic in this song. Till this movie was released, several female actors had begun to imitate her. Thus, she changed her style. But, she has always been unique and I believe she will remain so. 🙂

Mere Mehboob mere Sanam… Duplicate (1998)

Suraj hua madhdham… Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001)

Pretty woman… Kal Ho Na Ho (2003)
