Movie: This song appeared in 1965 Prithvi Pictures’ hit suspense thriller Gumnaam (Anonymous or Unknown) produced by N N Sippy and directed by Raja Nawathe. The movie starred Manoj Kumar, late Nanda, late Pran, Helen, late Mahmood, late Dhumal, Manmohan, late Madan Puri, late Tarun Bose, etc.

8 people including Asha (Nanda) win a trip to a foreign country in a chartered plane. The others include Barrister Rakesh (Pran), Dharamdas (Dhumal), Kishan (Manmohan), Dr. Acharya (Madan Puri), Madhusudan Sharma (Tarun Bose) and Kitty Kelly (Helen). When they reach an island, the pilot informs them that the plane has to undergo an emergency landing on the island. When all of them including the plane’s crew member Anand (Manoj Kumar) get down from the plane, it takes off stranding all the passengers on the island.

While they try to find a way out, they hear ominous laughter and then a female voice singing a song. They regroup and walk toward the rocky beach. They see a mansion near the beach and enter it. There they find that this trip was being planned for the last several months and they would be killed one by one. Anand is an unexpected guest and arrangements have to be made for him as well. They do not take the ominous message seriously and settle down in the mansion. Dr. Acharya’s bottle of poison and Dharamdas’ revolver raises the suspicion-meter on them. The butler’s (Mahmood) activities are also suspicious. The group senses one more person in the house, who is not visible to them.

Asha finds that her photo with her uncle has been stolen by someone in the group and suspects Anand. She goes out to the rocky beach and accuses him of it. Soon, Kishan disappears and Asha and Anand find Kishan’s dead body in between the rocks on the beach. Asha and Anand have fallen in love with each other. Post that, it rains and Anand is in a romantic mood, beginning to sing this song.

Song: The music of this song was composed by Shankar-Jaikishan and the lyrics were penned by Hasrat Jaipuri.

The man sings the praises of the girl, requesting her to come into his arms.

The video opens with the shot of rain-water flowing on the ground taking the soil with it. It is night. Nanda and Manoj Kumar walk toward each other in the rain becoming wet. The music has already begun. He begins to sing the song as she moves away from him. She replies to him in the same way. They seem to have no cares in this world.

Manoj Kumar tries to get close to Nanda and she keeps moving away. They walk through some plantations, together. Soon, the song peters out and the video ends as Nanda hurriedly climbs some steps.

Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Mohammad Rafi and Sharda and the onscreen performances are by Manoj Kumar and Nanda.

Cultural Influence: This is a typically filmi romantic song signifying the beginning of the lead pair’s romance in the movie. The song and the artists are very good. The video is watchable for the same.
