Review: The 3rd Annual Titty 500 at the White Rabbit Cabaret (night two)

The final lap on Saturday night of Indy’s burlesque fest the “Titty 500” ended it in spectacular fashion. The glitz was revved up to 11, with the evening featuring an entirely new lineup from the night before including: Itty Bitty Twitty from Spread Eagle, Wisconsin, Chicago’s Shimmy La Roux, Nashville’s Shan De Leers and Freya West, and Louisville’s Ethel Loveless.

Host for the evening was Chicago’s own Jeez Loueez, still nursing a knee injury but unrelenting in raunch, sass and disco glamour in a gold “Barbarella”-inspired outfit. Her seasoned professionalism and improv throughout the night proved why she’s one of the best in the business.

Senorita Pussy warmed up the crowd with an erotically hypnotizing performance that morphed into a sparkling get-down; the biblical Salome who still knew how to party after a few shots of tequila.

Frenchy LaRouge is a performer with ridiculous amounts of charm to spare. It’s always a thrill to hear her sing, and her always popular “Money” number brought her trademark charisma to the forefront. Lula Lawless’ innocent, doe-eyed expression betrayed a fiery, sensual choreography in her number that was bewitching. She’s an underrated performer and always a highlight of any show she’s in.

When Gurl Haggard is on stage, you know the sleaze is not far behind. Not only is she definitely the girl you want to see waiting for you when you get out of jail, but she also has the intimate gift of making each one in a crowd feel like the dance is just for them.

Itty Bitty Twitty, who “came straight out of retirement” for the show performed a first-rate number that could have been a film outtake straight from Altman’s “Nashville.” Her subtle facial expressions, gestures and details like the limp cigarette between her lips suddenly blew up into pure showmanship for a big finish, complete with inspired playing card props.

“WTF” burlesque is always memorable, and Trini Bikini’s burger-themed second-half opener encapsulated George Costanza’s dream of mixing food and sex (to a Journey soundtrack). Her performance put a new spin to the phrase “hold the tomato.”

An underlying theme for the night was that the Titty 500, similar to its racing car counterpart, is a ceremonial beginning to the oncoming warmer weather. No performer embraced this as much as Ethel Loveless, the “peach cobbler” of burlesque, who brought summer, tequila and orange beehives back for the season in one fell swoop.

Shimmy La Roux, straight from hostess Jeez’ all-black burlesque revue, Jeezy’s Juke Joint brought that troupe’s unique blend of class, ass and earthy sensuality to the evening, making it desirable just to be in her presence.

From Nashville came blonde bombshell Freya West who brought the night’s attitude in spades for a dangerous number; Jean Harlow if she had discovered rock ‘n’ roll.

Also from Nashville was the MVP for night two, Shan De Leers. A Playboy bunny performing straight from the roadhouse, she perfectly married humor and personality and, no beating around the bush here, a goddamn amazing ass that didn’t need a cottontail, but was welcome just the same.

All in all, the Titty 500 ended in a blaze of glory. With absolutely no filler over the two nights, the event was loud, proud and in your face like two twirling titty tassels. Get tickets early for next year’s – – it will be worth it.
