The Prince of Parties Himself, Andrew W.K. Brings the Celebration to Indy’s Hi-Fi on May 9th.
It’s party time Indiana! Roll out the red carpet, because Andrew W.K. is coming to town. He’ll be brining his infamous energy to our very own Hi-Fi, so stop by and check it out. If there’s anything Naptown needs to recover after this long, long winter, it’s a good old-fashioned party. After all, cultures the world over ring in the coming green with some kind of wild celebration. There’s no reason why we should be any exception.
A Brief History
Born Andrew Wilkes-Krier, Andrew W.K. originally comes from Stanford. California but grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Musical from a young age, W.K. began the piano at four. There must have been a fragment of Iggy Pop’s energy still floating around, because as soon as he could, at 14 to be exact, W.K. joined a band. Admittedly, that band didn’t amount to much, but that didn’t stop Andrew! He spent the next few years active in Michigan’s punk and metal communities, performing with whoever would take him in.
After releasing his first solo EP on Bulb Records, an independent label, W.K. started getting some badly needed attention. Eventually, this led to the release of his first LP I Get Wet in 2001. Since then, Andrew W.K. has steamrolled ahead like the world’s happiest Albrams tank. In addition to his musical career, he also works as a motivational speaker, actor, and author. Not bad as life paths go.
Loud. And happy. And very violent. Andrew W.K. makes no secret of his metal and punk roots, but turns their abrasiveness and (occasion) nihilism in on themselves. The result is a very powerful, energetic sound that can barely restrain its joy. Actually, scratch that, it makes no effort to restrain its joy at all.
Andrew pounds out the power chords, bellowing about parties like a heavy metal Dionysius. Needless to say, his music sits on the positive end of the outlook spectrum. Almost to the point of psychosis. But, if you’re looking for an antidote to all the doom and gloom of winter, you’ve found it.
So, as always. The venue is the Hi-Fi, door’s at 8:00PM.
See you there!
