Preview: Moonwalks at The Pioneer

On Friday, March 23rd, The Pioneer in Fountain Square, Indianapolis will be bringing two touring bands to their stage for another late night concert. The headlining band is the psychedelic space rock group Moonwalks. Joining them are Uppers, a rock band from Austin, Texas.

Moonwalks are a psych-wave band from Detroit, Michigan that formed in 2014. They released their debut “EP” in 2014. The band’s first full length, vinyl album “Lunar Phases” came out in 2015. Moonwalks’ most recent release, “A Little Touch of Gravity” came out last year. You can listen to the EP and “Lunar Phase” by visiting the Moonwalks Bandcamp page.

Moonwalks’ unique sound features atmospheric musical arrangements, vocals laced with tons of reverb, and driving drum and bass. Songs like “UFO Factory” on the album “Lunar Phase” draw similarities to some of the great experimental bands like Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and the later, psychedelic Beatles.

According to their profile on Zuma Bookings, “Moonwalks have toured extensively throughout the US and Europe, as well as open for notable acts such as Thee Oh Sees, Metric, Kikagako Moyo, Wand, and LA Witch”.

Moonwalks consists of Kerrigan Pearce (drums), Jacob Dean (guitar), and Kate Gutwald (bass). For more information on Moonwalks, you can visit their Facebook page. You can also find and listen to Moonwalks on SoundCloud.
