On Friday, March 23rd, Radio Radio in Fountain Square, Indianapolis will be welcoming a several bands from Chicago to perform alongside a few Indianapolis favorites. the headlining act for the night is Model Stranger, a psychedelic and grunge rock band from Chicago. Joining them will be another Chicago-based band, Molehill, along with Tracksuit Lyfestile, and The Breakes.
Model Stranger came out with their debut release, “Dreams & Bones” in 2010. Since then, they’ve been regularly touring and playing live shows, along with putting out several additional albums throughout the years. Model Stranger’s sophomore release, “The Changing Score” came out in 2013. The band’s most recent release “Imitation Act”, came out as an EP in 2015. You can listen to these and more by finding Model Stranger on Bandcamp.
Model Stranger consists of Stephen Francis (guitar, lead vocals), Kevin James (bass, keys), and Vincent Joseph (drums, percussion). There’s a saying that you shouldn’t trust a man with two first names, but I’m not sure whether the same holds true for bands.
Molehill is an alternative rock band from Chicago that first started playing in 2008. Four years after the band formed, Molehill released its debut album “Equinox”. Since then, Molehill has released four additional albums. The most recent of these, “Hearts on Fire” came out in 2017. You can listen to “Equinox”, “Hearts of Fire”, and everything in between on Bandcamp.
The members of Molehill are Peter Manhart (lead vocals, guitar), Trevor Jones (bass, vocals), Greg van Zuiden (keyboards, vocals), and Devin Staples (drums). To learn more, you can find Molehill on Facebook. You can also visit their website.
Tracksuit Lyfestile is a local Indianapolis instrumental rock band. They’ve played around town at different venues, including the Hi-Fi on one First Friday when I happened to be there. If their name is a gimmick, they at least own it during their performances, with every member sporting their own colored tracksuit. They’re mostly a jam band, but still a fun presence on stage in their own way.
The members of Tracksuit Lyfestiile are entertainers, an easy thing to see when you glance at the monikers they each go by. There’s T-Bone McJenkins (trombone), Skeevey Mike (bass), Hank Morestache (drums), Eugene Picklebottom (guitar), and Rufus (“the box”). To find out more, you can check them out on Facebook.
The Breakes are an indie rock band from Brownsburg, Indiana. According to their Facebook profile, “the band has a sound that varies from song to song, focusing on everything from heavy dance tunes to smooth summer jams”. The Breakes released their debut album “Free of Defects” in 2014. their second, and most recent release, “Ignacio” came out in 2016.
The show at Radio Radio starts at 9:00 pm on Friday, March 23rd. Doors open at 8:00, and there’s a seven dollar cover at the door.
