Today is Shankar Mahadevan’s birthday. Every time I hear the name Shankar Mahadevan, I remember the title song from the Telugu movie Shankarabharanam (1980) 🙂 , which was remade into Hindi as Sur Sangam (1985). I met Shankar Mahadevan for the first time to interview him for a print magazine at the beginning of my career. He had just created a sensation with his music album Breathless (1998). He has done well for himself. I again got to interview him 3 years back for the Facebook page of the same magazine. I have seen often that success goes into people’s head. But, he was very humble and polite to me.
I had stopped watching new movies because they had no good messages or content, according to me. From the time I began to write reviews here, I had to compulsorily watch some of these movies. Am I impressed! And particularly Shankar Mahadevan and his friends Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa have done good work. Since the time I began to watch these movies, I have been wondering where does he get the Punjabi Tadka in him. He is a Tamilian and his wife is a Maharashtrian. But, he and his friends often compose Punjabi songs. I am making a note of this and intend to ask about it the next time I interview him.
