Late Composer Pankaj Mullick’s Death Anniversary


Born Pongkoj Kumar Mollick (August 4, 1905), better known as Pankaj Mullick was a famous musician composing music for Bengali and Bollywood movies. Today is his 41st death anniversary. Padma Shri Pankaj Da also received the highest accolade for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1972. 2006 saw the Indian Postal Service releasing a postage stamp on the occasion of his birth centenary. Doordarshan celebrated the event by telecasting a special music program on May 10 that year. Just 50 years before that Bharatanatyam dancer Vyjayantimala and Pankaj Mullick were the lead performers during the event commemorating the all India launch of the TV channel in 1959.
