Yesterday, Actor Urmila Matondkar celebrated her 44th birthday. She has mostly worked in Bollywood. At the same time, she has been seen in Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu movies. She is particularly associated with thrillers and has often been called as a sex-symbol. She has also received several accolades including a Filmfare Critics Award – Bhoot (2003). She debuted as a child artist with Zaakol (1980) in Marathi. Kalyug (1981) became her first Bollywood movie. Her childhood role in Masoom (1983) was acclaimed.

She debuted as an adult with the Malayalam movie Chanakyan (1989) and the first Hindi movie where she was featured was the hit Narsimha (1991). She led the cast in several movies and collaborated with Ram Gopal Verma often. Then, she gave another hit with Ram Gopal Verma called Rangeela (1995). She was praised for her performance in romantic triangular drama Judaai (1997), despite the presence of stalwarts like Sridevi and Anil Kapoor in the movie. She was also appreciated for her role in the crime thriller Satya (1998).

Her performance as intense psychological characters like the serial killer in Kaun (1999), an obsessive lover in Pyar Tune Kya Kiya (2001) and a violent avenger in Ek Hasina Thi (2004) have been much appreciated. She has also worked in lesser-known indie movies like Pinjar (2003), Tehzeeb (2003), Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara (2005), Naina (2005) and Bas Ek Pal (2006). In many shots, she reminds me often of Sridevi.
