Late A K Hangal’s Birthday


Padma Bhushan late A K Hangal was born on this day in 1914. Born Avtar Kishan Hangal, he was involved in the Indian Freedom Struggle from 1929 to 1947. At the same time, he had been acting on stage between 1936 and 1965, as an Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) artist. Hangal Sahab joined Bollywood at 52 years of age with Teesri Kasam (1966). Between 1966 and 2005, he performed in 225 Hindi films. His roles in Aaina (1977), Shaukeen (1981), Namak Haram (1973), Sholay (1975), Manzil (1979) and Prem Bandhan (1979) have been appreciated. It is noteworthy that he did 16 films with late Rajesh Khanna.

Bollywood and A K Hangal: The disadvantage is that character actors like Hangal Sahab were not often featured in songs. Thus, it is difficult to find such songs, which were picturized on him. Some songs from a few movies in which he has acted are:
