Movie: This song appeared in 2017 romrama (romantic drama) Ok Jaanu (Ok Beloved) directed by Shaad Ali and produced by Mani Ratnam (Madras Talkies) and Karan Johar (Dharma Productions). The movie starred Aditya Roy Kapur, Shraddha Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Leela Samson, Eesh Kakkar, etc.
The movie involves Adi (Aditya Roy Kapur), who is a video game developer, accidentally meeting Tara (Shraddha Kapoor). Tara wants to pursue higher studies in Paris and Adi wants to make it big in the US as a video game developer. They move around together and fall in love. They decide that marriage is not for them. They want a ‘no strings attached’ relationship. Tara travels to Ahmadabad for a project. Adi also jumps into the train without a ticket. In Ahmadabad, they visit an Islamic religio-historical monument for Tara’s project and they also visit Gandhiji’s workplace in Sabarmati, which has become a museum now. Tara reveals to Adi at this time about the trauma of coming from a broken home. We get to know that’s where her aversion to marriage and kids comes from. They are late for their train and they end up in a lodge room. Tara does not allow Adi to have sex with her.
However, when she is back in her hostel in Mumbai; she encounters her mother, who asks her several questions about where she has been and with whom. Adi catches up with Tara at her office and they have sex in her hostel room. Soon, they decide to have a live-in relationship at the place he lives. His landlord Gopi Shrivastava (Naseeruddin Shah) does not permit them to stay there without marriage. As Gopi’s wife Charu (Leela Sampson) and Tara get along well, Gopi permits them to stay there.
One day, Tara visits a Gynecologist with him and he assumes that she is pregnant though they had used precautions. He becomes uncomfortable. Tara finds the situation funny and continues with the presumption on his side. When they come out, she shows him the reports. They turn out to be blueprints for the renovation of the doctor’s clinic. This kind of attitude of young people today shows their irresponsibility. Having sex is a responsible activity. Love is NOT sex. If people think that love means sex, they are mistaken. If that is what it is, then it is not real love. First of all, going into a live-in relationship itself is being flippant. Is sex everything in one’s life? These people will keep having only sex-relationships with each other. The sacred institution of marriage is now in danger. This world will not be able to rejuvenate itself and will be filled with people with broken hearts. Eventually, these 2 people realize that they want to live with each other all through their lives. What special will they have to do after marriage?
Tara receives mail from Paris that she had been admitted to the university for her further studies. She realizes that she was in no position to leave Adi because she had fallen in love with him and wants to live with him for life. They begin to have small arguments. Adi’s American clients like his new video game and send all the necessary documents for him to travel to that country. It is during the party that he realizes that he would have to leave Tara for the fulfillment of his long-cherished dream. After the party, they decide to enjoy their entire life in the next 10 days. This song is heard in the background at this time.
Song: The song has lyrics by Gulzar and the music has been composed by A R Rahman.
The gist of the song is, “Let us live our lives the fullest in the given time.”
Video: Cinematography is by Ravi K Chandran.
The video opens with Shraddha Kapoor standing near the jetty close to the Gateway of India. Aditya Roy Kapur follows her to that place. The song has begun in the background. The lead pair converses with each other and comes to a decision. Aditya Roy Kapur is, next, seen driving a jeep and Shraddha Kapoor is standing on the seat enjoying the whole thing.
Then, they are sitting on the boot of the jeep, together with the sea showing different hues behind them. They are also seen enjoying a night drive on the empty streets of Mumbai with other friends. They are also seen dancing in a discotheque. Aditya Roy Kapur gives Shraddha Kapoor a chain as a gift leaving her in tears.
This must be a promotional video because the lead pair is seen marrying each other at this point. The song peters out and the video ends as Aditya Roy Kapur lifts Shraddha Kapoor vertically and rotates in circles.
Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Arjun Chandy, Neeti Mohan and Savithri R Prithvi and the onscreen performances are by Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur.
Cultural Influence: This is a typically filmi song, which is heard when the lead pair decides to party for the next 10 days. The song and the artists are ok. The video is watchable for the same.
