Next Saturday, The State Street Pub is bringing some classic surf rock vibes to their dimly lit dive a hop, skip, and a jump away from the heart of Fountain Square. Playing at the State Street Pub will be The Aquaholics, The Katatonics, and The Orchard Keepers.

The Aquaholics

The Aquaholics are an instrumental surf rock band from the Chicago area. 2015 saw the release of their debut album, “Psycho Satanic Surf Party”. Since then, The Aquaholics have released one additional album, “Surfing With Satan” in 2017.

If you haven’t guessed already by the titles of their albums, The Aquaholics like to fuse the upbeat vibe of surf rock with darker themes. Their Facebook bio page describes their sound as “Chicago style Instrumental Surf/Punk with a Halloweeny twist”.

The Aquaholics consists of Marky (guitar, vocals), Johnny (bass), Andy (guitar), and Ryan (drums). To find out more about The Aquaholics, you can visit their website. You can also find The Aquaholics on Facebook and Bandcamp.

The Katatonics

The Katatonics are another instrumental, surf-based group, but rather than infuse their sound with dark vibes like The Aquaholics, they prefer to turn to the more whimsical sub-genre of “surfabilly”. The Katatonics are from Bloomington, Indiana, and have played a number of shows with The Aquaholics. It makes sense, as they’re both instrumental groups that, for the most part, play feel-good surf rock.

The Katatonics released their debut album “Demo 2031” in 2013. The band’s most recent release “Swamp Terror 7””, came out just last year.

The Katatonics are JBoy (upright bass), Hack (guitar), Mike Morgan (guitar), and Danny (drums). To find out more, you can visit their Facebook page. You can also listen to The Katatonics on Bandcamp.

The Orchard Keepers

Last up is a band that breaks the instrumental surf rock trend of the evening. The Orchard Keepers are an alternative indie and punk rock band from Indianapolis. They haven’t been around for a while, or at least haven’t been recording very long, as their debut album “Stick Face” was released just last year.

The members of The Orchard Keepers are Nick Underwood (drums), Ella Roberts (bass), and Ayanna Miller (guitar, vocals). To find out more about The Orchard keepers, you can visit their Bandcamp page. You can also find The Orchard Keepers on Facebook.

The show at the State Street Pub kicks off at 9:00 pm next Saturday, February 10th, and will run until around midnight. A five dollar cover will get you in the door.
