Movie: This song appeared in 2017 romrama (romantic drama) Ok Jaanu (Ok Beloved) directed by Shaad Ali and produced by Mani Ratnam (Madras Talkies) and Karan Johar (Dharma Productions). The movie starred Aditya Roy Kapur, Shraddha Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Leela Samson, Eesh Kakkar, etc.
The movie involves Adi (Aditya Roy Kapur), who is a video game developer, accidentally meeting Tara (Shraddha Kapoor). Tara wants to pursue higher studies in Paris and Adi wants to make it big in the US as a video game developer. They move around together and fall in love. They decide that marriage is not for them. They want a ‘no strings attached’ relationship. Tara travels to Ahmadabad for a project. Adi also jumps into the train without a ticket. In Ahmadabad, they visit an Islamic religio-historical monument for Tara’s project and they also visit Gandhiji’s workplace in Sabarmati, which has become a museum now. Tara reveals to Adi at this time about the trauma of coming from a broken home. They are late for their train and they end up in a lodge room. Tara does not allow Adi to have sex with her.
However, when she is back in her hostel in Mumbai; she encounters her mother, who asks her several questions about where she has been and with whom. Adi catches up with Tara at her office and they have sex in her hostel room. Soon, they decide to have a live-in relationship at the place he lives. His landlord Gopi Shrivastava (Naseeruddin Shah) does not permit them to stay there without marriage. As Gopi’s wife Charu (Leela Sampson) and Tara get along well, Gopi permits them to stay there.
One day, Tara visits a Gynecologist with him and he assumes that she is pregnant though they had used precautions. He becomes uncomfortable. Tara finds the situation funny and continues with the presumption on his side. When they come out, she shows him the reports. They turn out to be blueprints for the renovation of the doctor’s clinic. This kind of attitude of young people today shows their irresponsibility. Having sex is a responsible activity. Love is NOT sex. If people think that love means sex, they are mistaken. If that is what it is, then it is not real love. First of all, going into a live-in relationship itself is being flippant. Is sex everything in one’s life? These people will keep having only sex-relationships with each other. The sacred institution of marriage is now in danger. This world will not be able to rejuvenate itself and will be filled with people with broken hearts. Eventually, these 2 people realize that they want to live with each other all through their lives. What special will they have to do after marriage?
Tara receives mail from Paris that she had been admitted to the university for her further studies. She realizes that she was in no position to leave Adi because she had fallen in love with him and wants to live with him for life. They begin to have small arguments. This song is heard in the background at this time when she leaves alone on a bus.
Song: The song has lyrics by Gulzar and the music has been composed by A R Rahman.
The gist of the song is, “Why did God make you so good? I feel happy with you. When you are not with me, I miss you.”
Video: Cinematography is by Ravi K Chandran.
The video opens with Shraddha Kapoor taking a selfie with Aditya Roy Kapur after their first argument. They are on the road and she takes off on a bus. He is then seen at his home beginning to sing this song. He remembers how they had spent their time together. They are seen kissing under water. The song, soon, peters out and the video ends as they are seen kissing against the daylight inside their room.
Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Shashaa Tirupati and the onscreen performances are by Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur.
Cultural Influence: This is a typically filmi song, which shows that the hero has really fallen in love with the heroine. Mani Ratnam Sir, you have disappointed me by showing through this movie that people can have sex with anyone they want and call it love. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
