Punk Rock Night at The Melody Inn

Keeping in with tradition, next Saturday night is once again Punk Rock night at the Melody Inn in Indianapolis. For this particular installment, the Melody Inn will be hosting Against the Grain, Steed, and Doc Rotten.

Against the Grain

While next Saturday is Punk Rock night, the Detroit band Against the Grain leans more toward true rock than punk. With that being said, they still infuse their sound with a healthy dose of punk energy and attitude. They also come close to the sounds of doom and thrash at times, which I think grants them enough of an edge to meet the qualifications.

Against the Grain released their debut album, “Motor City Speed Rock” in 2012. Since then, they have released two additional albums. “Surrounded By Snakes” came out in 2013, and “Road Warriors” dropped in 2015. As far as Against the Grain is concerned, there’s no need to tap the breaks. They play loud, they play fast, and they’re here to rock.

Against the Grain consists of Chris Nowak (bass, lead vocals), Rob Nowak (drums, vocals), Nick Bellomo (lead guitar, vocals), and Kyle Davis (guitar, vocals). To find out more about Against the Grain you can visit their Facebook page. You can also listen to them on Bandcamp.

Doc Rotten

Doc Rotten is a straight up punk rock band from Trenton, New Jersey that formed in 2016. Their songs are high energy, in your face, and laced with just the right amount of angst. Doc Rotten released their debut and only EP, “Fallout EP” just last November on Black Friday. You can listen to it for free on Bandcamp.

The members of Doc Rotten are Wes (guitar, vocals), Mike (bass, vocals), AJ (drums), and Andrew (guitar). To learn more about Doc Rotten, you can visit their Facebook page. You can also visit their website for more information.

Steed is a thrash rock band from Indianapolis still in the early stages of its career. They released an EP on Bandcamp called “Surrounded By Cowards”, that you can listen to here. In my honest opinion, thrashy rock with screaming vocals doesn’t really hit me in the ‘feels’, but that’s just me. For their credit, Steed excels whenever they launch into one of their periodical instrumentals. The fuzz-filled rock riffs and heavy jams are really where Steed shine. Unless you’re a fan of thrash and metal, in which case, you’ll likely find them even more appealing.

Steed consists of Bake Henry (bass, vocals), Matt Rubadue (guitar), Phred Aldred (guitar), and Steven Riddle (drums). You can find Steed on Facebook.

Punk Rock Night at the Melody Inn starts at 10:00 pm next Saturday, February 3rd. Doors open at 9:00, and there’s a seven dollar cover to get in.
