Movie: This song appeared in 2014 Dharma Productions’ hit romedy Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (The Bride of Humpty Sharma) produced by Karan Johar and directed by Shashank Khaitan. The movie starred Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sahil Vaid, Gaurav Pandey, Ashutosh Rana, Mahnaz Damania, etc.

The lead characters – Rakesh aka Humpty Sharma (Varun Dhawan) and Kavya Pratap Singh (Alia Bhatt) meet for the first time at Kavya’s maternal uncle’s place. Kavya, an Ambala resident, is at his place to earn enough money for buying a designer bridal dress for her wedding. Kavya’s uncle is Humpty’s exam paper corrector. Humpty bribes them and Kavya promises that he will get pass marks. Humpty falls in love with her and begins chasing her with his friends Poplu (Sahil Vaid) and Shonty (Gaurav Pandey). But, she just befriends them.

Soon, Humpty gets to know that Kavya’s friend Gurpreet (Guncha Narula) was being blackmailed by her ex-boyfriend Bhanu (Jimmy Varyani), after secretly filming the time they were intimate. Humpty victimizes Bhanu and recovers the money, which he had blackmailed Gurpreet into giving him. The total amount that he recovers from Bhanu is much more than the amount they needed to return to Gurpreet. Humpty decides to give the extra money to Kavya, which she rejects since she did not like the way they had earned the money.

Due to the adventures that they had, Kavya also falls in love with Humpty and they celebrate Gurpreet’s marriage with a good boy. Kavya and Humpty go to bed together the night before she is to leave for Ambala. Humpty wants to marry her. But, she tells him that she would not go against her father. Her father wants her to marry an NRI. Humpty’s father has also contributed toward the fund for buying Kavya’s dress. She accepts the money, without wanting to, and leaves Delhi. But, she buys Humpty’s father’s dream car as a gift for them with the money they had arranged. Humpty decides to find Kavya and marry her. He sets out for Ambala.

When Kavya comes back home, her sister Swati (Mahnaz Damania) and other ladies in her family realize that she has changed. Kavya’s father (Ashutosh Rana) believes in arranged marriages since his elder divorcee daughter Swati’s love marriage turned out to be a disaster. Kavya’s father has been blaming his elder daughter for the disaster and keeps taunting her. Kavya’s father immediately rejects Humpty’s proposal and gets him beaten up. He and his friends are thrown into a truck going back to Delhi. Humpty and his friends return to Ambala with more determination and give Kavya’s sister a call. She informs Kavya and picks her up from home. While traveling in her sister’s jeep, Kavya remembers the moments she had spent with Humpty, during her stay in Delhi.

Kavya cries when she sees Humpty in the hospital and helps him recover from his wounds. When Humpty repeatedly tries to persuade Kavya’s father to let them marry, he allows Humpty to stay at their house and tells him to find flaws in the NRI bridegroom Angad (Sidharth Shukla) within 5 days. Humpty and his friends try to find the reason due to which Angad’s claim to be Kavya’s groom can be invalidated. But, they are not very successful. They all sing this song during the sangeet ceremony of her marriage.

Song: The lyrics of this song were penned by Irshad Kamil and the music was composed by Sachin-Jigar.

The gist of the song is, “Wise men, themselves, do not know if the egg came first or the hen. Forget brainwork. Let’s listen to a story. The hen cried the entire night. She did not sleep the whole night. The cock is crazy. The egg won’t appear on its own.”

Video: Cinematography is by Neha Parti Matiyani. Dance choreography is by Ahmad Khan-Remo-Adil Sheikh.

The video opens with Alia Bhatt slightly slapping Varun Dhawan. He feeds her the burnt roti that she had brought for him. The next shot is of the sangeet ceremony. Ladies are seen singing in chorus, with a couple of them playing the dhol. Alia Bhatt and Mahnaz Damania are seen swaying to the music as they sit on a cot.

Sidharth Shukla appears to be happy and mingles with his would-be in-laws. Ashutosh Rana hugs Sidharth Shukla. Alia Bhatt looks around for Varun Dhawan. Varun Dhawan and his 2 friends – Sahil Vaid and Gaurav Pandey enter the place where the ceremony is happening. Varun begins to sing and dance in tune with the music. Alia Bhatt joins him in the song and the dance.

Sidharth Shukla also joins them. Sahil Vaid tries to act like a gay, who has fallen in love with Sidharth Shukla. Mahnaz Damania also dances with Alia Bhatt. Ashutosh Rana is enjoying the celebration standing aloof from them. Varun Dhawan approaches Ashutosh Rana to continue to dance. But, the older man does not look pleased, with him.

Deepika Amin (who plays Alia Bhatt’s mother) begins her story and tells her daughters that her husband would continue the story. Ashutosh Rana takes up the narrative and joins the younger lot in the song and dance. Mahnaz Damania tells her story, sadly. Everybody stops dancing and are sad, too. Varun Dhawan consoles Mahnaz Damania.

Ashutosh Rana insists that Mahnaz Damania smile and forget the past. Sidharth Shukla hugs Sahil Vaid, who gropes the taller man on his back. Sidharth Shukla takes the shorter man to a storeroom and the song and the video end there.
