Music Composer A R Rahman’s Birthday


Music Composer Padma Bhushan A R Rahman or Allah Rakha Rahman was born Dileep Shekhar. He not only composes music he is also a singer, songwriter, musician and philanthropist of great repute. He is renowned to incorporate Indian Classical Music with world music, electronic music and traditional orchestra. He debuted as a music composer with Roja (1992). One of the all-time world’s bestselling recording artists, he has worked in India as well as internationally in cinema as well as theatre.

In his career spanning 2 decades, he is considered to have redefined contemporary film music in India. Thus, he has a track record of giving regular successes at the box office. He has won 4 National Film Awards, 2 Academy Awards, 2 Grammies, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, 15 Filmfare Awards and 16 Filmfare South Awards. A R Rahman was listed in Time 100 List of the World’s Most Influential People, in 2009. In August 2011, the UK-based Songlines magazine called him one of Tomorrow’s World Music Icons. He has been called The Mozart of Madras and Isai Puyal (Musical Storm). 2017 saw him debut as a director and writer for the movie Le Musk.

He was introduced to Qadiri Tarika in 1984 and converted to Islam with his family in 1989 and changed his name then.
