While next Friday marks the First Friday of both the month and the new year, there’s one venue in town that won’t be waving the cover fee, but don’t take that to mean that the show Radio Radio is offering on January 5th should be looked over. For one night only, Green Room Rockers will take the stage at Radio Radio. Joining them will be the Indianapolis band Louie Louie.
Green Room Rockers
Green Room Rockers is a midwest reggae and soul band from Lafayette, Indiana, and Chicago, Illinois that was founded in 2006. The band consists of members Mark (keys, vocals), Ron (sax, guitar), Perry (drums), and Ryan Frahm (guitar). Their music is soaked in ska, blues, and reggae, and they bring a soulful touch to each track. Many of their songs feature old-school styled compositions, horn accompaniment, and groovy beats. If you haven’t heard of them and are a fan of reggae or ska, you won’t be disappointed.

Louie Louie is an Indianapolis band who describes their genre as “LouWop/BubbleFunk/PsychPop“. While their Bandcamp profile states that they’re not a revivalist band, it also somewhat supports the theory. “On stage they might toss out grooves reminiscent of Little Richard and Chuck Berry, and hit a swing as melodically addictive as Martha and the Vandellas”. The group came out with their debut EP “Louie Louie: A Tribute to the Highlighters” in 2016. Their most recent, “Louie Louie” came out in April of 2017. Louie Louie consists of Louie (vocals, keys), Nick (bass), Jake (guitar), Sharlene (guitar), and Johna (drums). Their songs often feature filtered vocals, harmonizing background vocals, and a classic old-school vibe with a contemporary twist.
So for anyone in town looking to get away from the rough and wild, and sometimes ear-splitting bands that often pop up, this is one to keep in mind. The show at Radio Radio in Fountain Square starts at 9:00 pm. The doors open at 8:00, and there’s a seven dollar cover at the door.
