Movie: This song appeared in 2005 Oscar Films’ runaway hit Tamil psychological thriller Anniyan (Stranger) directed by S Shankar and produced by V Ravichandran. The movie starred Vikram, Sada, Vivek, Prakash Raj, Nassar, Nedumudi Venu, etc.
Ramanujam Iyengar aka Ambi (Vikram) comes from an orthodox Brahmin and an honest consumer protection advocate from Triplicane, Chennai. He is idealistic and law-abiding. He is so naïve that he expects everyone to follow the rules and the law and prosecutes the violators. He is in love with his neighbor and classical singer, Nandini (Sada). But, he is never confident enough to propose to her. A chain letter arrives at his home. It says that Anniyan has appeared and would solve all problems. Ambi begins to complain about all the issues that he had been facing. And the serial murders begin.
Ambi’s and Nandini’s families form a group and decide to go for the Tyagaraja Music Festival in Tillai, Tamil Nadu. Ambi goes with them just to be with Nandini, despite a lot of work. While traveling on a train, Ambi takes the Ticket Checker to task for the caterers supplying substandard food to the non-maintenance of the toilets. Ambi’s friend Chari (Vivek) tricks everyone to make Ambi and Nandini take the opposite upper berths. They converse about things other than the topic required. He again calls the TC for the non-working of the fans. Nandini gets quite fed up with the whole thing.
After reaching Tillai, Ambi proposes his alliance for Nandini to her parents through a letter, saying that giving a love letter to a girl is morally wrong. Guess what the letter contains? It is his CV! Nandini outright rejects him for always talking rules and not being practical. He gets very dejected due to the rejection. Soon, she gets a phone call from a man called Remo. Nandini does not suspect how this man got her number. He has already sent several flower plants as gifts to her. He tells her that he is in love with her and she has to come and meet him at a club where he is performing as a model that night. When she reaches the club, he sings this song for her.
Song: The lyrics of this song were penned by Na. Muthukumar and the music was composed by Harris Jairaj.
The man sings, “Remo has found love, the size of an elephant. He will kiss you with his tusk. Weak hearts, beware! He is a model, walking the ramp.”
Video: Cinematography is by V Manikandan (left the project halfway) and Ravi Varman. Dance choreography is by Kalyan-Ahmad Khan-Raju Sundaram.
The video opens with the camera moving from the feet to face of Celina Jaitley. The music has begun and a female voice has begun to sing. Sada and her friends enter the audience area. Some men are seen walking across the ramp. The last man is Vikram and he is wearing a silver mask. He removes the mask and wears a pair of sunglasses, not yet revealing his face.
Sada is stunned at the display of his persona. But, surprisingly, she does not realize that she knows this man as Ambi. Vikram and Celina Jaitley begin to dance. He throws a kiss at Sada. In between, Celina Jaitley also sings a few lines. Some good special effects are shown with Vikram throwing his ‘heart’ toward Sada and it hitting her heart.
The dance has been choreographed keeping in mind the times. At the same time, there is too little space on the ramp for dance and that has been utilized very well. Sada’s friends tease her about her beloved. The song rises to a crescendo and the video also ends as all the dancers stop dancing and applause is heard from the audience.
Artists: The playback of this song has been sung by Nakul, Melvin and G V Prakash Kumar and the onscreen performances are by Vikram, Celina Jaitley, Sada and others.
Cultural Influence: This typically filmi song has a lot of western influence on it and the lyrics are a combo of Tamil and English. The song and artists are very good. The video is watchable for the same.
