Raj Kapoor would have been 92 today


Born Ranbir Raj Kapoor in Peshawar to Actor Prithviraj Kapoor, he acted in, produced and directed several movies. He is called the ‘greatest showman’ of Bollywood. He won several awards and accolades for his contribution to the Hindi Film Industry. The Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award has been named after him. 1971 and 1987 saw him being awarded the Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award, respectively, by the Indian Government.

Time magazine ranked him as one of the 10 greatest performers for his performance in Awara (1959). His movies were enjoyed by not just Indians but also by audiences from the other countries of Asia and Europe. He was often known as Clark Gable of Bollywood and Charlie Chaplin of Indian Cinema.
