Movie: This song appeared in 2017 Yash-Raj Films’ romantic drama Meri Pyaari Bindu (My Lovely Bindu) produced by Aditya Chopra and Maneesh Sharma and directed by Akshay Roy. The movie featured Ayushmann Khurrana, Parineeti Chopra, etc.
Abhimanyu Roy (Ayushmann Khurrana) and Bindu Shankaranarayanan (Parineeti Chopra) are best friends since their childhood. Abhimanyu has always been in love with Bindu much to the chagrin of his mother. He never conveys his real feelings to Bindu and is happy with just friendship. He helps her in her ambition to become a singer and they visit a club for an audition. Soon, Bindu’s mother (June Malia) expires in an accident. Bindu is heartbroken and blames her father for the tragedy since he was driving the car under the influence of alcohol. Her resentment toward her father grows and forces her to leave college and shift to her maternal aunt’s place in Melbourne, Australia.
At the same time, Abhimanyu completes his M.Sc. and joins MBA in Bangalore. When he goes to Goa for a vacation, he meets Bindu. She informs him that she is engaged. Abhimanyu is heartbroken and goes to Mumbai to work in a bank. Bindu calls him to a Mumbai restaurant to tell him that she cannot marry her fiancé since he ran away. Abhimanyu begins their friendship with newfound enthusiasm and helps her going out of his way. Soon, Bindu falls in love with Abhimanyu and he is elated at the revelation.
Together, they work for the fulfillment of Bindu’s desire to become a singer. This song is heard in the background, now.
Song: The lyrics of this song were penned by Kausar Munir and Rana Mazumdar and the music was composed by Sachin-Jigar.
The initial words of the song are in the Bengali language. I am sharing some portion of the Hindi lyrics only. The gist of the song is, “Spread your arms and slowly teach yourself how to love someone.”
Video: Cinematography is by Tushar Kanti Ray. Dance choreography is by Rajit Dev-Ranju Varghese. This is a promotional video.
The video opens with the shots where the lead pair is spending time with each other. Parineeti Chopra appears in Ayushwamann Khurrana’s office, right when he is getting a scolding from his boss.
Ayushmann Khurrana gives priority to her and looks at the cover of the magazine she had posed for. Then, he requests her to leave. Then, they are seen dancing in the rain. The song peters out and the video ends with the shot of Parineeti Chopra, looking sad and disappointed.
Artists: The playback has been sung by Monali Thakur and the onscreen performances are by Ayushmann Khurrana, Parineeti Chopra and others.
Cultural Influence: This typically filmi melody song, which has borrowed a little from the Bengali language. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
