David Byrne has announced a tour for 2018, one that will take him down the northeast coast of the United States, then through some stops in South America on his way to a few summer festivals in Europe. Byrne also plans on putting out an album in early 2018, which he has apparently been collaborating on with the likes of ambient pioneer Brian Eno and vaporwave/sound artist Oneohtrix Point Never.
Although fans can hope that Byrne’s new solo record comes out around the start of tour time (it’s been tentatively slated for a March release), they can at least look forward to a spectacular set of shows. The former Talking Heads frontman has promised a tour that will run through many of the band’s hit songs, most likely including tracks like “Psycho Killer” and “Burning Down the House.” Byrne recently talked about the tour, which will feature a brand new stage set up utilizing wireless technology and lightweight chains to hide the usual stage equipment from view, with Brooklyn Vegan.
“The band and I will be testing all of this in front of a live audience during a small number of shows in the beginning of March. We’ll be doing some new songs… and many others that will, I assume, be familiar. I’m excited. This is the most ambitious show I’ve done since the shows that were filmed for Stop Making Sense, so fingers crossed.”
Byrne also made comments suggesting that they will be using color and light extensively in the stage performance, and that his Talking Heads songs will be mixed up with plenty of new material as well.
