This Friday not only marks the first of December, but also the first Friday of the month. Once again, to celebrate the occasion, there will be many free concerts across the greater Indianapolis area to enjoy. In Fountain Square, The Hi-Fi will be featuring Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes. Also performing at The Hi-Fi will be Tracksuit Lyfestile and Ryan Brewer.
Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes
Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes are an indie rock and pop band from Nashville, Tennessee. The band formed in 2010 and consists of Daniel Ellsworth (lead vocals, keys), Joel Wren (drums), Timon Lance (guitar), and Marshall Skinner (bass). They released their debut album, “Civilized Man” in 2011, and are set to release their newest, “Fashion”, in 2018.
Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes are experimental with both their melodies and rhythms, and yet still maintain a pleasant pop sensibility. You can hear the same kind of whimsical playfulness in their sound as bands like Vampire Weekend.

Ryan Brewer
Starting off the night at The Hi-Fi will be Indianapolis’ own Ryan Brewer. As a singer and songwriter, Brewer sits comfortably in the Americana genre, focuses his efforts on strong lyricism and songwriting. As a lyricist, Brewer explores topics of existential confusion, political disenchantment, a struggle with religion, and songs of love and happiness. His Facebook profile describes him as more of a musical storyteller than anything.

Tracksuit Lyfestile
When lined up with the other acts of the night, Tracksuit Lyfestile stands out due to more than just their name. As a local Indianapolis instrumental rock band, Tracksuit Lyfestile’s style is closer to hard or alternative rock than anything. Their songs sound very much like the extended instrumental breaks of alternative and prog rock bands.
They’ve got a sense of humor when it comes to names, as well, as each member has their own unique moniker. Tracksuit Lyfestile consists of T-bone McJenkins (trombone), Skeevey Mike (bass), Hank Morestache (drums), Eugene Picklebottom (guitar), and Rufus (“the box”). And yes, they also do wear tracksuits.
To learn more about Tracksuit Lyfestile you can visit their Facebook page. You can also listen to them for free on Bandcamp.
The Hi-Fi is set up for a variety of acts this First Friday, and I for one don’t plan on missing out on any of them. The show kicks off at 7:30 pm, and doors open at 6:30. I’ll see you there.
