When Taylor Swift sang “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” she wasn’t referring to country music. In fact, the former country music superstar is currently returning to her roots with a brand-new country song. On her latest album, “Reputation,” Swift included a country tune at the very end and has now released that song to country radio.
The song, titled “New Year’s Day,” is a piano ballad and has a contemporary country sound. It’s a catchy tune and is a love song. Considering this is the type of music that brought Swift to stardom, it is only natural that she would give a song like this to audiences at this point in her career.
It is completely different from the rest of her album. The remaining songs are heavily pop and r&b influenced, and it is hard to hear the old Taylor in the music. Recently, she performed the softer song at a fan event at one of her homes. It was fantastic, and we can only hope to see more of this Taylor soon.

It’s a fun song and one that reminds us of Swift’s former hit country songs. It is great to hear her sing a country tune again. And, while this one might not win any awards, we will be surprised if it does not become a popular song on country radio very soon.
“New Year’s Day” is the first country track Swift has released since 2014. That was the year she left country music with her the album “1989.” However, she hasn’t been away from country music completely. This year she wrote a country hit song for Little Big Town called “Better Man.” It was so popular that it won Song of the Year at the recent ACMs.
Swift’s entire album, including the new country track, is currently available for download. The singer is also planning a tour for the coming year to support and promote her new album.
