On Nov. 14, head out for a night of good beer and even better music at Fountain Square Brewery, where Davina and the Vagabonds will play along with special guest Eric Pedigo. If you’re up for some soulful blues as well as jazz-inspired acoustic tunes, you’ll want to check out this show.
Davina and The Vagabonds
Since 2005, Davina and The Vagabonds have turned their love of blues, jazz, r&b, and soul into one of the most entertaining musical acts you’ll ever experience. Led by vocalist and pianist Davina Lozier, this quintet has grown from a local, Minneapolis-St. Paul act to a band with a full-time national and international touring schedule.
In 2011, Davina and The Vagabonds dropped their debut album, “Black Cloud,” which was named one of the best releases of the year by the Minneapolis Star Tribune. In 2014, the follow-up, “Sunshine,” was met with similar acclaim. 2016 saw the release of their third album, “Nicollet and Tenth,” as well as some amazing opportunities including an opportunity to play a show at Daryl’s [Hall] House.
An absolute joy to listen to, the band is full of highly-trained, talented musicians, including Davina, whose vocal range is awe-inspiring. She combines it with her sometimes subdued, often aggressively melodic piano playing to create a refreshing sound. That sound is further uplifted by the outstanding bass, horns, and drums. When this quintet’s on stage, you’ll have to suppress the urge to dance. But, why would you?

Who doesn’t want a chance to support a local artist? With Eric Pedigo, you’ll get that chance. Growing up with a guitar in his hand (he started taking lessons at eight years old), Pedigo started writing music when he was 12 or 13, and continued in college where he found refuge in the craft. After moving to Indy in 2013, he released his debut solo EP, “Parachute.” Filled with songs meant to inspire and spark joy, Pedigo found his voice and his reason for writing music.
Signed to Indy-based label, Spark Joy Music, Pedigo recently released his full-length album, “Sun & Shade.” According to the musician, this record’s all about “breaking unhealthy cycles…choosing optimism over pessimism.” The lyrics are heartfelt yet often upbeat, accompanied by his jazzy, sometimes John Mayer-esque acoustic guitar.
When Eric’s on stage, you can’t help but smile and sing along. To learn more about this local artist, check out his website.
