Movie: This song appeared in 2015 rom-com Dum Lagake Haisha (loosely translates to Use Strong Force) directed by Sharat Katariya and Maneesh Sharma and Aditya Chopra jointly produced the movie under the banner of Yash-Raj Films. The movie starred Ayushmann Khurrana, Bhumi Pednekar (debut), Sanjay Mishra, etc.
The movie opens in 1995. Prem Prakash Tiwari (Ayushmann Khurrana) owns a video cassette shop in Haridwar’s local market. Prem’s father Chandra Prakash Tiwari (Sanjay Mishra) compels him to wed Sandhya (Bhumi Pednekar). Sandhya is an educated teacher while Prem is a school drop-out. It is during the wedding that this song is sung by stage performers during the wedding.
Song: The lyrics were penned by Varun Grover and the music was scored by Anu Malik.
The gist of the song is, “We will look for a beautiful and special bride, with good qualities, for you. She will not be temporary, but permanent. We will find a sober, sweet girl with high income.”
Video: The award-winning cinematography is by Manu Anand.
The video opens with Ayushmann Khurrana drinking tea inside a red car. He is wearing the dress of a bridegroom. He does not seem to be happy. The car is moving toward its destination. A man and a girl are singing this song on stage. Bhumi Pednekar is touching up her make-up. With her are several other brides.
The grooms are standing in a line to sign the marriage register. All the brides together and all the grooms together are photographed. This shot is a little comic as the groups of girls and men move together from side to side when the photographer gestures. Bhumi Pednekar is dancing with the kids. Ayushmann Khurrana’s family finds it strange.
Soon, they return to Ayushmann Khurrana’s home and the newlyweds are left alone in his room. They lie down on the single bed and turn away from each other to go to sleep. The song peters out and the video ends there.
Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Rahul Ram and Malini Awasthi and the onscreen performance are by Ayushmann Khurrana Bhumi Pednekar and others.
Cultural Influence: This typically filmi song talks about finding the right bride for the male protagonist. But, the song sequence is that of the wedding of the hero and the heroine. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
