Movie: This song appeared in 1957 hit dramedy Aasha (Hope) produced and directed by M V Raman under the banner of Raman Productions. The movie starred Kishore Kumar, Vaijayantimala, Minoo Mumtaz, etc.

Kishore (Kishore Kumar) is a kind-hearted person and always helps needy people. He comes from a rich Zamindar family. He is sent to Bombay (Mumbai now) to learn how to live in the city smartly from his cousin brother Raj (Pran). Raj has cheated many girls after enjoying life with them. One day, Kishore visits a girls’ college and falls in love with Nirmala (Vaijayantimala) as she performs on a stage. Raj is also attracted to Nirmala because she is rich.

One day, Raj and Kishore go hunting in the jungle. Raj meets and murders the father of one of the girls Kamini, whom he had jilted, to frame Kishore for it. Kishore has to flee. He lands at the house of another girl (Minoo Mumtaz), who was also jilted by Raj. The police follow him to the girl’s house and tell her that there is a big cash award for the person informing Kishore’s whereabouts. She latches the room in which Kishore is present. Kishore realizes that the girl is planning to hand him over to the police. But, the girl calmly begins to sing this song.

Song: The musical score of this song was composed by C Ramchander (Chitalkar) and the lyrics were penned by Rajinder Kishan.

The gist of the song is, “Go to sleep, O Moon, the moonlight pleads to you. I wonder where you have come from. You are sleepy. You are also frightened of something. I am present to protect you. Why do you fear?”

The video opens with Minoo Mumtaz beginning to hum. She is also playing the sitar. She begins to dance holding the sitar. She goes to sit on a swing and continues to strum the sitar. She also begins to sing. Kishore Kumar is agitated and has lost his trust. She runs in tune with the music toward the outside and looks around. Then, she closes the door and moves inside.

Kishore Kumar is relaxed because he has realized that Minoo Mumtaz is harmless and he is enjoying the song, now. The song peters out and ends as she stands in front of the room where Kishore Kumar is hidden.
