Movie: This song appeared in 1989 hit award-winning romantic drama produced by Yash Chopra and T Subbarami Reddy and directed by Yash Chopra under the banner of Yash-Raj Films. The movie starred Rishi Kapoor, Sridevi, late Vinod Khanna, etc.

Rohit (Rishi Kapoor) meets Chandni (Sridevi) at a wedding and falls in love with her. He pursues her persistently until she agrees to date him and they get engaged. Due to an accident, Rohit loses the function of his lower limbs. But, Chandni keeps visiting him, showering her affection on him despite the hatred she is subjected to by Rohit’s family. Eventually, Rohit goes into depression and rejects her affection. Chandni decides to leave the city.

When she moves to Mumbai, she joins Lalit’s (Vinod Khanna) travel agency. Lalit is a handsome and charming widower. Soon, he falls in love with Chandni and proposes to her. She also agrees and he and his mother (Waheeda Rehman) are happy. I don’t understand one thing. If a girl is really in love with someone, who is alive and is faithful to her as well, why will that girl agree to marry someone else? If I were that girl and was in such a situation, I would reject the proposal of anyone else other than the one I love. I may not be waiting for him. But, I would never marry someone else. That is real love. And that makes a lot of difference.

Lalit meets Rohit on a business trip to Switzerland. Rohit has come to the country for the treatment of his paralysis and can walk normally. The men tell each other about themselves and their beloved, without knowing that they are talking about the same girl. This is the song they sing at this time.
