Ashok (Shammi Kapoor) is in need of money for the surgery of his sister Roopa (Jayanthi) to give her eyesight. He takes on an assignment from Sarojini Devi (Lalita Pawar) for the money she offers and lands in Sundarpur for the assignment. Due to the mischief of some girls, twice he almost gets killed. He meets Mahesh (Mahmood) and they realize that Ashok had come to help Sarojini Devi. Ashok’s job is to make Sarojini Devi’s 2 younger granddaughters that their boyfriends are not worthy of them. He has one more job. He has to convince the eldest granddaughter Asha into marrying the suitor Sarojini Devi had decided for her.

In the process of discouraging one of her sisters’ boyfriends Manmohan (Manmohan), Asha, accidentally, shoots Ashok. Luckily, the bullets were dummy ones. But, Ashok takes the cue and pretends dead. With help from Mahesh, Asha disposes off Ashok’s ‘body’ in the lake nearby. At night, Mahesh also creates the right eerie atmosphere for Ashok to come in front of Asha as a ghost. Ashok appears from nowhere and through a song convinces Asha for marriage.

Next is Manju (Snehlata). To save her from the clutches of a wayward man Manmohan, Ashok goes to the club where Manmohan keeps a room ready for his nefarious activities. Before Manmohan rapes Manju, Ashok saves her.

In the meantime, Mahesh and Sheila (Shobha Khote) love each other. But, her father (Dhumal) and her mother (Leela Mishra) are against the match. They want their daughter to marry a groom from their respective communities – Maratha and Sindhi. They confine their daughter in her room. They finalize the grooms and Sheila informs Mahesh through his friend (Mohan Choti). Mahesh arrives to take her away singing this song.

Song: The lyrics of this song were penned by Rajinder Kishan and the music was composed by Shankar-Jaikishan.

The gist of the song is that the man has come to pick his beloved up from confinement.

Video: Cinematography is by late V K Murthy. Dance choreography is by Suresh Bhatt.

The video opens with Mohan Choti bringing a tow truck’s hook near the window of Shobha Khote’s bedroom. The music has begun. Mahmood appears from the cabin on the back of the tow truck. He begins the song. Shobha Khote hangs on the hook and Mahmood moves it away from the window.

It is not Shobha Khote on the hook. We know that some stuntman has disguised as a girl to hang on to the hook. Mahmood climbs toward the hook. Shobha Khote also moves toward Mahmood, hanging down from the rods of the hook. Mohan Choti is happy. Shobha Khote’s parents and the suitors realize that the bird has flown the nest.

Mahmood and Shobha Khote are dropped by Mohan Choti in a garden and they shake a few legs. When Shobha Khote takes over from Mahmood this time, she is shocked to see someone. The song and the video end there.

Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Mohammad Rafi and Sharda and the onscreen performances are by Mahmood, Shobha Khote, Mohan Choti and others.

Cultural Influence: This typically filmi song depicts the love of the comedian for another female actor and how he rescues her from her parents’ confinement. The song and the artists are very good. The video is watchable for the same.
