Every Thursday, The Mousetrap Bar and Grill in Indianapolis has a concert they dub “Altered Thurzdaze.” This week, it’s the Back to The Roots Tour, featuring Kalya Scintilla with Eve Olution.
Kalya Scintilla is an Australian music producer who signed with Zenon Records in 2009 with his first project, “Merkaba.” After releasing his second project, “Kalya Scintilla,” he later began touring the U.S. in 2011. While he lived in the US, Scintilla hunkered down in the west coast, playing in dance clubs where his electronic, groove-centric style was catching on. Scintilla creates deep and hypnotic beats, which are more often than not heavily inspired by an Eastern sensibility and feature dubstep-like sounds.
While continuing to craft his own music, Kalya Scintilla also founded the label Merkaba Music, and has produced the work of dozens of other musicians and bands. In 2012, Scintilla began working with Eve Olution with the album, “Open Ancient Eyes.” The two have been working and performing together ever since.
Eve Olution is a multi-ethnic American, and multi-cultural storyteller who specializes in theatre and performance art. Her side project, Evokation, is a Ritual Theatre collaboration with themes of healing, awakening, and self-expression. Together, she and Scintilla bring both music and storytelling to the stage in a unique performance unlike any other you’re likely to have seen. Throughout these performances, the two weave together mythological storytelling and ancient tribal beats within the context of a modern, electronic dance floor. Imagine Burning Man meets Cirque de Soleil, and then wrap it all up in hypnotic, electronic beats.
