Nadi jame J’aime – Vishal/Sunidhi – Vishal-Shekhar – Ranvir/Vaani | Befikre (2016)

Movie: This song appeared in 2016 romedy drama Befikre (Carefree) produced and directed by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash-Raj Films. The movie starred Ranvir Singh, Vaani Kapoor, etc.

The movie opens with live-in mates Shyra (Vaani Kapoor) and Dharam (Ranvir Singh) parting ways after an exchange of expletives and ending with a cuss word coming from Dharam. Shyra goes back home to stay with her parents. Shyra also goes back to her job as a tourist guide and Dharam is still working as a stand-up comic artist. Dharam ridicules different types of relationships including his, through his acts.

The movie goes into flashback mode from time to time, which shows how Dharam reached Paris with a lot of expectations. He rooms with a lesbian and meets Shyra at a party to get attracted to her. They have a night together. But, Shyra tells Dharam that she does not want anything to do with him after the previous night. Dharam follows her to her job as a tourist guide and insists that they be together for another night. She tells him to slap a policeman. If he dared to do that, she would be with him that night. Dharam slaps the policeman and the pair run like their life depends on it. Soon, Shyra decides to shift in with Dharam in a live-in relationship. They fight a lot due to small issues.

The story comes back to the present. On the first anniversary of their breakup, Dharam compels Shyra to meet him to celebrate the event. It is at this time that they realize that they got into sex too early in their relationship. If they had waited as friends, to find out about each other; they suppose that their relationship would have worked. Shyra begins to date investment banker Aney (Arrman Ralhan) and Dharam starts to date French girl Christine (Julie Ordon). Aney proposes Shyra for marriage and after a tete-a-tete with Dharam, she accepts the proposal. Dharam, on the other hand, is left alone realizing that he had fallen in love with Shyra. After she has left, Dharam thinks that they sing this song.

Song: The music of this song was scored by Vishal-Shekhar and the lyrics were penned by Jaideep Sahni.

The song is about losing one’s beloved because of a pact that the man and the girl had. The pact was that they would never say that they were in love with each other. The man is realizing that both of them were wrong.

Video: Cinematography is by Kaname Onoyama. Dance choreography is by Vaibhavi Merchant.

The video opens with Ranvir Singh walking forlornly on a garden path. He feels that he is again with Vaani Kapoor, played by another Ranvir Singh. Vaani Kapoor whistles the tune and the other Ranvir Singh begins the song. The first Ranvir Singh watches the other 2 sadly.

The picturization with 2 Ranvir Singhs has been done well. The first Ranvir Singh remembers all the times he had spent with Vaani Kapoor. The song peters out and the video ends as the lead pair faces each other. Vaibhavi Merchant’s choreography is good.

Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Vishal Dadlani and Sunidhi Chauhan and the onscreen performances are by Ranvir Singh and Vaani Kapoor.

Cultural Influence: There is no cultural influence for this typically Bollywood song. Through this song, the hero realizes that he is really in love with the heroine. The song and the artists are okay. The song is also catchy. The song is watchable for the same.
