Preview: Red Wanting Blue at The Hi-Fi


This Friday night in Fountain Square, the midwest American rock ‘n’ roll band, Red Wanting Blue will be coming to the Hi-Fi to play a live show starting at 8:00 pm. Opening for Red Wanting Blue will be local Indianapolis singer and songwriter, Tommy.

Red Wanting Blue formed back in 1996 in Athens, Ohio on the campus of Ohio State University. Formed by singer and guitarist Scott Terry, the band released its first two full-length albums, “Velveteen” (1996) and “Image Trigger” (1998), while still attending school. The released several more records independently, but ended up attracting their most loyal fans during their engaging and entertaining live shows.

Red Wanting Blue is comprised of Scott Terry (vocals, guitar, ukulele), Mark McCullough (bass, chapman stick, vocals), Greg Rahm (guitar, keyboard, vocals), Eric Hall (guitar, lap steel, vocals), and Dean Anshutz (drums, percussion). After their second official label release,¬†From the “Vanishing Point” (2012), Red Wanting Blue’s popularity soared. They performed live on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” VH1,and NPR’s “Mountain Stage.”

In 2014, the band released their tenth album to date, “Little America.” Before recording it, Red Wanting Blue was on a two-year-long North American tour, during which they found inspiration for the album.

Opening for Red Wanting Blue Friday night is Tommy, a local Indianapolis singer and songwriter. A multi-instrumentalist since 2002, Tommy has played in various local and regional venues. In 2013 Tommy went solo, and one year later, released his debut album, “Sailor and the Sea.” After his first album, Tommy traveled, played, wrote, and recorded his most recent album, “We Are Safe,” which came out early 2017. Tickets for the show will range from $17-$20, depending on whether or not you buy them online or at the door. The show starts at 8:00 pm, doors open at 7:00 pm.
