Aaj jane ki zid na karo – Shilpa Rao – Pritam | Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)

Movie: This song appeared in 2016 romantic drama Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (O Heart, this is Difficult) directed by Karan Johar, under the banner of Dharma Productions. The movie starred Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Lisa Haydon, Imran Abbas, Fawad Khan, etc.

A wannabe singer Ayan Sanger (Ranbir Kapoor) and Alizeh Khan (Anushka Sharma) meet in London by chance and end up kissing instinctively. They spend the night together talking to each other about themselves and come close. They begin double dating each other with his live-in girlfriend Lisa D’Souza (Lisa Haydon) and her betrothed Dr. Faisal Khan (Imran Abbas). On one such date, they meet at a silent discotheque and Alizeh tells the DJ (Alia Bhatt) to play the breakup song.

Before the night is over, Lisa and Dr. Faisal are seen making out together in the gents washroom. Ayan and Alizeh breakup with their girlfriend and boyfriend, respectively. Post a comic and dramatic withdrawal of Ayan from his girlfriend, Alizeh plans a trip to Paris with Ayan. They are happy together. But, she meets her former boyfriend Ali (Fawad Khan) and everything goes topsy-turvy. Alizeh tells Ayan to leave and goes with Ali to Lucknow where he proposes to her and they decide to get married. Alizeh asks Ayan to be present in the wedding and after some hesitation, he arrives at the wedding.

Ayan’s exit from the midst of the wedding is dramatic and tearful. At the airport, he meets a poet Saba (Aishwarya Rai) and she gifts him her book of poems with her cell number. 3 months later, Ayan contacts her and she welcomes him. He meets her at a discotheque where this song is being played.

Song: The music of this song was scored by Pritam and the lyrics were penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya.

The gist of the song is, “I am trying to hold my heart. The obsession has exceeded the limit. Don’t talk about leaving today.”

The video opens with Aishwarya Rai disconnecting Ranbir Kapoor’s call after talking. Ranbir Kapoor is now at a discotheque and is looking around for Aishwarya Rai. There are several people dancing there. He sees Aishwarya Rai and she looks at him with a hint of a smile. The song begins in the background.

Ranbir Kapoor is about to hug Aishwarya Rai. But, she stops him and gestures him to look into her eyes. He replies in gestures that he will look at her body. She pushes his hand away and takes him in the midst of the dancers and begins to dance herself. He also joins her in the dance. He tries to kiss her. But, she pushes him away.

The next shot is at Aishwarya Rai’s home where she pushes away his shirt. They spend an intimate time together. The song goes on in the background. Soon, the song peters out and the video ends there.
