Country music singer Jo Dee Messina shared some sad news with her fans last week. She has been diagnosed with cancer. Due to her illness, she is postponing all remaining concert dates for the year after Oct. 7. She is also taking a semester off at The King’s University while she fights cancer.
Currently, Messina isn’t giving out too many details about her cancer. She did post a statement on her website but didn’t share what type of cancer she is dealing with.
“Over the years, Jo Dee has built a close relationship with her fans, so those of us at Team JDM wanted to be the first to let you know that she was recently diagnosed with cancer,” the statement read. It went on to say, “We don’t know anything specific regarding the treatment plan at this point, but Jo Dee is working closely with a team to explore all options.”
Messina was an incredibly popular artist in the 1990s, with hits like “I’m Alright,” “Bye Bye,” and “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” among several others.
After the announcement, Messina’s team released a new song by the artist, “Here.” Messina co-wrote the song, and it has a lot of soul and passion built into the lyrics. Fans are already enjoying the song quite a bit. It’s Messina’s first music since 2014. You can view it at the top of the article.
Hopefully, we will be hearing a lot more out of the singer in the years to come. She has such a beautiful voice and powerful presence on stage that we will notice her absence from country music. For now, we can just sit back and wait while her team of doctors develop a treatment plan.
