Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) has been an expert in gambling for a long time and has never lost in any game. His skills are noticed by the underworld Don Ratan Das (Madan Puri). The don wants Jai to win large amounts from rich people and then compel them to do whatever he wants. Jai agrees to do so and is successful enough to trap Nath (Jagdish Raj), who is a government employee. Nath loses large amounts of money and is blackmailed to reveal the blueprints of a top secret weapon. When the Indian police come to know about this; they hand over the case to Inspector Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan again).

Vijay catches up with Monica (Helen) as the video of her dance is captured by the police. The dance is some kind of code for smuggling. When Vijay is in the process of taking her for questioning, she is shot by one of the goons Sethi (Roopesh Kumar). Ratan Das with his boss Saxena (Utpal Dutt) then, is on the lookout for a new dancer. They find one in Shabnam (Zeenat Aman), who is Ramesh’s (Prem Chopra) fiancée. Ramesh is a henchman of Saxena in India. Jai and Vijay are sent to Rome at the same time by their bosses.

Having found out about Vijay, the goons send Shabnam to entice him. But, Jai meets Shabnam and they have to stay back in Cairo because of a bomb threat in the plane they had boarded. On the other hand, Vijay’s flight is delayed and meets Mala (Neetu Singh), who was supposed to meet Jai, at Rome airport. Vijay realizes that he has a look-alike and should be careful from then on. He decides to go with Mala. Soon, he leaves Lisbon leaving a letter for Mala saying that he is not the Jai she thinks he is.

Jai, on the other hand, becomes a pawn in the hands of Ramesh and the other goons. But, he gets away with the help of Shabnam and lands at Mala’s home. He has an important dance video and a code book. Mala thinks that her Jai is back and takes him to Gomes’ restaurant. It is here that Shabnam sees him with Mala and sings this song.

Song: Music by late R D Burman and lyrics by late Anand Bakshi.

The gist of the song is that the girl and the man had met after a few days. She asks, “Where were you for so many days? What do we say to the person, who knows you, but does not recognize you?”

Video: Cinematographer Aloke Dasgupta. Dance choreography is by Surya Kumar-P L Raj.

The video opens with Amitabh Bachchan leaving the restaurant with Neetu Singh and seeing Zeenat Aman approaching them. Zeenat Aman is singing this song. She takes the other 2 inside the restaurant and continues singing. She makes them sit on one of the seats available. Then, she pulls him along to dance with him and hugs him in the process.

Neetu Singh is offended. Prem Chopra and Sujit Kumar also arrive there. Amitabh Bachchan goes back to sit with Neetu Singh. He seems to be anxious. Neetu Singh cannot take it anymore and gets up to tell him that they should leave now. Prem Chopra stops them, showing a gun stuck into his trouser to Amitabh Bachchan. Amitabh Bachchan tells Neetu Singh to leave.

Amitabh Bachchan is surrounded by Zeenat Aman, Prem Chopra and Sujit Kumar. Zeenat Aman takes him to a staircase so that he can leave safely. But, Prem Chopra and Sujit Kumar block his progress over there as well. The song and the video end there abruptly.

Artists: Asha Bhonsle sang this song on the playback, while Zeenat Aman, Neetu Singh, Amitabh Bachchan, Prem Chopra, Sujit Kumar and others perform onscreen.

Cultural Influence: This is a typically filmi song, sang by one of the heroines asking her hero, why did he not recognize her? The song and the artists are very good. The video is watchable for the same.
