Lee Ann Womack is back with a brand-new label and a brand-new album. “The Lonely, The Lonesome & The Gone,” the title of her new album, will come out on Oct. 27 through ATO Records. The singer says you can expect to hear a blend of blues, gospel, soul and country throughout this new album.
To create the album, Womack headed back to her Texas roots. Womack recorded most of the songs in Houston at SugarHill Studios. She recorded some of the acoustic cuts elsewhere, however. Womack tells NPR that this was important to the way the album turned out.
“I wanted to get out of Nashville, and tap the deep music vibe of East Texas,” she said. “I wanted to make sure this record had a lot of soul in it, because real country music has soul. I wanted to remind people of that.”
One of the songs on that new album is now available for streaming, and you can definitely hear the soul in it. It’s a classic country sound and reminiscent of songs from the 70s and 80s. Womack’s strong and beautiful voice is unmistakable, and she pours all of her soul into this song. You can listen to it for yourself, below.
It’s been quite a while since we last heard music from Womack. Her last album came out in 2014. Before that, we heard from Womack back in 2008. Hearing her voice again is definitely exciting.
Fans can only hope that she will continue her return to country music and give fans a lot more music to enjoy in the future.
