Announcement of Passing
The news first reached the public via a message from Campbell’s family. Following his death, they shared a statement that read, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and legendary singer and guitarist, Glen Travis Campbell, at the age of 81, following his long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.”
Campbell leaves behind a loving family, tons of fans and a treasure trove of great country music. You aren’t going to find many country artists with a career like his.
When news of his diagnosis broke, hearts around the world were broken. Many tributes went out to the star, and he finally received his lifetime achievement award. He went on to record one final album and go on one last tour before the disease took over completely.
During the past few years of his life, Campbell’s family continued to keep fans updated on his health. Sadly, it only deteriorated as the months passed. Eventually, the star could no longer talk or sing. However, his family still loved spending time together and found glimpses of the old Campbell anytime they could.
Following Campbell’s death, downloads and streaming of his music increased significantly. Fans were looking for ways to remember the singer, and this was the best way to do so. Naturally, a lot of stars also wanted to demonstrate their memories of the singer. Several performed covers of Campbell’s songs at their concerts.
Tanya Tucker, Campbell’s ex-love interest, even created and released a single about, and dedicated to, Campbell. All proceeds from that song will go to benefit the Alzheimer’s foundation. You can listen to it for the first time, here.
