Movie: This song appeared in 2013 black comedy flick Jolly LLB (A name) directed by Subhash Kapoor and produced by Fox Star Studios. The movie starred Arshad Warsi, Boman Irani, Amrita Rao, etc. The story was inspired by Sanjeev Nanda hit-and-run case 1999 and there is some reference to the Priyadarshini Mattoo case as well. It bagged the National Film Award for the Best Hindi Feature Film. February 2017 saw the release of the sequel Jolly LLB 2.
The movie begins with a drunk Rahul Dewan (Rajeev Siddhartha) racing in his large car with another car after being seduced by a woman in the passenger seat, in the dead of night. Losing control he crashes into a wall on the footpath. The next shot is of a court scene in Meerut where Jagdish Tyagi or Jolly (Arshad Warsi) a Law graduate defending a surgeon against a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed against him after the surgeon had his 14-year old son operate a patient to be featured in Guinness Book of World Records. Jolly loses the case and decides to try his luck in Delhi.
He meets his girl-friend school teacher Sandhya (Amrita Rao) and tells her about his decision. But, she tries to persuade him in many words that his decision is not the right one. When he does not listen, she gets upset. It is at this time that he sings this song.
Song: The music of this song was scored by Krsna and the lyrics were penned by Subhash Kapoor.
The gist of the song is the man tries to pacify the girl saying that they can become strangers again and start their acquaintance with each other, all over again.
Video: Cinematography is by Anshuman Mahaley.
The video opens with Amrita Rao placing something in her school locker. When she closes the door, Arshad Warsi is standing, hidden behind it. He begins the song and she acts with attitude. She also replies to him in the song. She has also begun dancing. He drops her at her home. Before she goes, he asks for a kiss. But, she refuses.
Her father comes out and she goes inside, immediately. Arshad Warsi also leaves. The next day, he is at his ‘office’ outside the court, continuing with the song. He sings that her father gets involved in an accident and breaks a bone or 2. He distributes sweets. She looks at him in an akimbo position and pushes away his hands that he keeps on her shoulders. He performs a few dance steps.
In the next shot, he is seen taking the blessings of an old couple and then bids farewell to Amrita Rao. He takes all his stuff in a pickup truck.
Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Mohit Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal and the onscreen performances are by Arshad Warsi, Amrita Rao and others.
Cultural Influence: This is a typically filmi song where the hero tries to mollify the heroine. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
