Movie: This song appeared in 1994 Rajshri Productions’ super hit musical rom-com Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (Who am I to you?) directed by Sooraj Barjatiya. The movie starred Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Mohnish Bahl, Renuka Shahane, Alok Nath, Anupam Kher, late Reema Lagoo, Satish Shah, Himani Shivpuri, Sahila Chadha, etc.
Prem (Salman Khan) and Rajesh (Mohnish Bahl) live with their uncle Kailashnath (Alok Nath), post their parents’ death. Rajesh is in charge of the family business and his family is searching for a bride for him. Kailashnath finds out that Professor Siddharth Chaudhary (Anupam Kher) and his wife (Reema Lagoo) have an eligible daughter Pooja (Renuka Shahane). Pooja has a younger sister Nisha (Madhuri Dixit). Rajesh and Pooja like each other from the first glance, one of the reasons is that both are painters. Both the families arrange Rajesh and Pooja’s marriage. Since the beginning, Nisha and Prem keep bickering light-heartedly with each other.
Rajesh and Pooja get married and Pooja mingles with Rajesh’s family very easily and becomes a part of the family in no time. Soon, she gets pregnant and the next traditional ritual of godbharayi comes up. The Professor and his wife cannot attend because of postponed exams in his college. Nisha is sent instead. Prem comes to pick her up. They fall in love with each other. Rajesh has to go abroad for finalizing a business deal. Pooja gives birth to a boy and her parents come to visit them. After the visit, they return home with Nisha. Before she leaves, Prem and Nisha begin this song.
Song: The lyrics of this song were written by Ravindra Rawal and the music was scored by Raam-Lakshman.
The gist of the song is the man says, “You have to leave me to stay apart for only some time. You will be returning to my home soon.” The girl replies in the same vein.
Video: Cinematography is by Rajan Kinagi. Dance has been choreographed by late Jay Borade.
The video opens with Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit lying on a bed. Salman Khan tells her to wait a minute and goes to a tea table on which several magazines have been placed neatly displaying their names. He sits on the chair and begins to write something on a writing pad. She kisses his head as he begins to sing, what he had written.
She is crying and he is trying to cheer her up. Everybody comes out into the garden and they have a photo shoot. Lakshmikant Berde pushes Salman Khan toward the others, who are posing and he himself takes the snaps. Apparently, Madhuri Dixit and her family are back home. She speaks to Salman Khan hidden from the view of others.
He makes her laugh. She is sitting midway on a ladder and imagines that he is coming in a marriage procession to wed her. She also imagines that the ladder that had been used during the song Chocolate lime juice… is decorated and Anupam Kher asks Salman Khan to climb up on it to reach Madhuri Dixit on the terrace to give her a bouquet.
Salman Khan is in his office working and stretches like a cat in his chair. He thinks – Renuka Shahane and Madhuri Dixit are wearing similar saris and working in the kitchen. Salman Khan mistakes one for the other and hits Renuka Shahane with a catapult. Soon, Mohnish Bahl also comes into the kitchen and both try to romance their own wives.
Older people come along and the love birds separate from each other until the older people leave. Then they go back to their own wives. Salman Khan is swimming and Madhuri Dixit brings the food trolley for him. He comes out of the water and throws a towel at her. He sits on the settee comfortably and she wipes his hair.
I wonder if all men are so lazy, expecting their wives to do everything for them! They all play cricket. Now, Salman Khan is brought back to reality by Lakshmikant Berde. The song and the video end abruptly.
Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Lata Mangeshkar and S P Balasubramanium and the onscreen performances are by Salman Khan, Mohnish Bahl, Renuka Shahane, Alok Nath, Madhuri Dixit, Anupam Kher, Lakshmiknat Berde and others.
Cultural Influence: This is a typically filmi romantic song where the hero and the heroine try to cheer each other. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
