Movie: This song appeared in 1994 Rajshri Productions’ super hit musical rom-com Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (Who am I to you?) directed by Sooraj Barjatiya. The movie starred Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Mohnish Bahl, Renuka Shahane, Alok Nath, Anupam Kher, late Reema Lagoo, Satish Shah, Himani Shivpuri, Sahila Chadha, etc.
Prem (Salman Khan) and Rajesh (Mohnish Bahl) live with their uncle Kailashnath (Alok Nath), post their parents’ death. Rajesh handles the family business and his family is searching for a bride for him. Kailashnath finds out that Professor Siddharth Chaudhary (Anupam Kher) and his wife (Reema Lagoo) have an eligible daughter Pooja (Renuka Shahane). Pooja has a younger sister Nisha (Madhuri Dixit). Rajesh and Pooja like each other from the first glance, one of the reasons is that both are painters. Both the families arrange Rajesh and Pooja’s marriage. Since the beginning, Nisha and Prem keep bickering light-heartedly with each other.
Rajesh and Pooja get married. Pooja mingles with Rajesh’s family very easily and becomes a part of the family in no time. Soon, she gets pregnant and the next traditional ritual of godbharayi comes up. The Professor and his wife cannot attend because of postponed exams in his college. Nisha is sent instead. Prem comes to pick her up. They fall in love with each other. Rajesh has to go abroad for finalizing a business deal. Pooja gives birth to a boy and her parents come to visit them.
One evening, they decide to have a small get together where everybody would have fun. They play the game of passing the parcel and Nisha sings this song when she loses.
Song: The lyrics of this song were written by Dev Kohli and the music was scored by Raam-Lakshman.
The gist of the song is, “Oh, mother, a crow is talking from the roof of your home. Your beloved daughter has become an ascetic and lost her heart to another ascetic.”
Video: Cinematography is by Rajan Kinagi. Dance has been choreographed by late Jay Borade.
The video opens as Salman Khan is in a meditating posture and Madhuri Dixit strumming his musical instrument. Everybody turns toward her. She winks at him and he is pleasantly surprised. She begins to dance and then, sing. She closes Reema Lagoo’s eyes and continues the song.
Sahila Chadha and Priya Arun also join her in the dance. Salman Khan pretends that he is not looking at her. Lakshmikant Berde nudges him to get his attention on the performance. Salman Khan also dances with Madhuri Dixit strumming the musical instrument. Ajit Vachani, Anupam Kher, Alok Nath and Satish Shah also join her in the dance.
Madhuri Dixit joins the ladies and all of them perform together. Reema Lagoo shows some attitude as Madhuri Dixit sings of getting her married off. All of them come together in 2 circles one within the other and continue performing the dance. The music rises to a crescendo and the song and the video end as Salman Khan tries to hug a shy Madhuri Dixit.

Cultural Influence: This is a typically filmi Punjabi folk song celebrating the very life of the hero and heroine’s families. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
