Hollywood might be on its way to becoming a bit more country. Rumors are floating around that country music star Luke Bryan is considering joining the cast of “American Idol” as a judge.
If he does join the show, he will work alongside Katy Perry and Ryan Seacrest to bring “American Idol” to a new generation of viewers. Currently, Perry is the only judge to have inked a deal. Seacrest also announced that he will return as the show’s host when it begins airing again.
With the show returning this fall, producers are under quite a bit of pressure to fill all the other spots. However, they want to make sure they can choose judges that fans of the show will like. For country music fans, Luke Bryan would definitely be an excellent choice.
A couple other options the show is reportedly considering are Lionel Richie and Charlie Puth. Per the Hollywood Reporter, FremantleMedia and Core Media have these names on their shortlist, but have yet to start negotiations with any of the stars.
The first auditions for the reboot of the show will start on Aug. 17, 2017. Naturally, negotiations will need to move quickly to keep the show on schedule. However, they are trying to avoid some of the issues the former version of “American Idol” had at the end of its run.
Apparently, salaries for the judges had become so high that the show began to lose money. New producers for the show are hoping to avoid that issue with the reboot. That’s one reason the team is taking so much time negotiating with the stars. It took three months to get Ryan Seacrest to commit to his contract.
Having a country music star as a judge on “American Idol” is probably a good idea. Country music stars, like Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler and Scotty McCreery, made their careers on “American Idol.” Many of their fans will likely watch the show. Having Luke Bryan as part of the judging panel will sweeten the deal a lot more.
Fans tend to appreciate Bryan’s down to earth, fun-loving, country boy family-friendly personality. Plus, with that smile, it’s tough not to love him. Hopefully, we will know soon if he will join the panel for the reboot.
