Movie: This song appeared in 1994 Rajshri Productions’ super hit musical rom-com Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (Who am I to you?) directed by Sooraj Barjatiya. The movie starred Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Mohnish Bahl, Renuka Shahane, Alok Nath, Anupam Kher, late Reema Lagoo, Satish Shah, Himani Shivpuri, Sahila Chadha, etc.
Prem (Salman Khan) and Rajesh (Mohnish Bahl) live with their uncle Kailashnath (Alok Nath), post their parents’ death. Rajesh is in charge of the family business and his family are searching for a bride for him. Kailashnath finds out that Professor Siddharth Chaudhary (Anupam Kher) and his wife (Reema Lagoo) have an eligible daughter Pooja (Renuka Shahane). Pooja has a younger sister Nisha (Madhuri Dixit). Rajesh and Pooja like each other from the first glance, one of the reasons is that both are painters. Both the families arrange Rajesh and Pooja’s marriage. Since the beginning, Nisha and Prem keep bickering light-heartedly with each other.
Rajesh and Pooja’s engagement is announced and the wedding also gets over. Pooja mingles with Rajesh’s family very easily and becomes a part of the family in no time. It is at this time that Prem compels Pooja to join the family and friends in a cricket match and he sings this song.
Song: The lyrics of this song were written by Ravindra Rawal and the music was scored by Raam-Lakshman.
The man sings praises of his sister-in-law and says how he had missed the motherly love of his sister-in-law as a child.
Video: Cinematography is by Rajan Kinagi. Dance has been choreographed by late Jay Borade.
The video opens with Mohnish Bahl, mock irritated by the pomeranian (Umpire in the game) that it supported Renuka Shahane during the match. It runs to Renuka Shahane as Mohnish Bahl throws the ball on it. Lakshmikant Berde, Sahila Chadha and Salman Khan begin dancing to the tune of the music, which has begun.
Renuka Shahane whispers something in the pom’s ear and it runs to Mohnish Bahl. Salman Khan begins the song and makes Mohnish Bahl and Renuka Shahane join them in the dance. It needs to be said that the dance is really good, choreographed in a suitable manner for the situation. Renuka Shahane is now seen performing arti to the deity in their home.
Renuka Shahane treats Salman Khan like a child. This is what the ideal relationship between a lady and her younger brother-in-law should be. It is morning and Mohnish Bahl and Alok Nath are going to the office. Salman Khan is still being pampered by Renuka Shahane to have food. He allows her to place a piece of toast in his mouth and picks up an apple to run to his brother.
The next day, Salman Khan watches Renuka Shahane pull out the newspaper Mohnish Bahl has in his hand and insists that he has breakfast. Salman Khan takes Alok Nath to the dining table to make him see the scene there. Salman Khan and Lakshmikant Berde dance around Renuka Shahane. She takes 2 glasses of milk toward Alok Nath and gives him one.
Salman Khan compels her to drink the other glass of milk. He is, then, seen watching the shoe-fight song-video. Lakshmikant Berde is surprised. Salman Khan freezes when the close-up shot of Madhuri Dixit is seen, goes closer to the TV set and then thinks that Madhuri Dixit has joined him in the dance again wearing the same green ethnic dress.
He, actually, dancing with Lakshmikant Berde! The latter decides to complain about the former. But, Salman Khan stops him. Renuka Shahane looks up from her work. The 2 guys run down and Salman Khan covers the Lakshmikant Berde’s mouth. Both begin dancing around Renuka Shahane. She applies the flour with which she was working on Salman Khan’s cheeks.
Salman Khan appreciates his sister-in-law’s hard-work at their home. He dances with her again and when he stops he sees Madhuri Dixit wearing a similar sari to Renuka Shahane standing behind the older sister in the movie. Then, she disappears.
Renuka Shahane looks like a thin over-worked housewife! Soon, Renuka Shahane gets pregnant. Himani Shivpuri (a doctor in the movie) diagnoses it and informs the entire family about it. Alok Nath, Salman Khan, Himani Shivpuri, Lakshmikant Berde and the other s playing the servants keep several toys ready for the new guest expected to come home.
The song peters out and the video ends as Renuka Shahane, at advanced pregnancy stage, is being walked by Mohnish Bahl and Salman Khan and Lakshmikant Berde dancing to the tune of the song.
Artists: The playback of this song was sung by S P Balasubramanium and the onscreen performances are by Salman Khan, Mohnish Bahl, Renuka Shahane, Alok Nath, Madhuri Dixit, Himani Shivpuri and others.
Cultural Influence: This is a typically filmi song celebrating the mingling of Renuka Shahane with her husband’s family and eventually getting pregnant. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
