“Raf” premiered back in May on Frank Ocean’s “blonded RADIO.” A shortened version was released as a video on July 20.
The video is only two minutes long. I was confused because the song features, well, everybody: A$AP Mob, A$AP Rocky, Quavo, Frank Ocean, Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert. Unless each rapper was just going to say one or two lines, I was confused as to how it was going to work.
As it turns out, the video is a condensed version. I’m not sure why they did that. Perhaps it was a scheduling conflict?
At any rate, the video is solid. A$AP Rocky, a hip-hop fashion hero (apparently), spends half of the video modeling various looks. They are not looks that most people can get away with, but most people don’t model and appear on the pages of GQ.
After A$AP we get Quavo, unfortunately, who does his hashtag-y, Trap-py thing. It’s fine. He also models some clothes. He’s much better at that than he is at rapping.
Playboi Carti also appears in the video but doesn’t have his own verse in the song.
So this version of the song is a full minute longer and it includes Lil Uzi Vert’s verse as well as Frank Ocean’s.
Both the song and the video of “RAF” make reference to Raf Simons, a Belgian fashion designer. The video is inspired by the designer’s fashion.
Today A$AP Mob also announced a 20-city tour in the United States. The “Too Cozy Tour” will start in Lowell, Massachusetts in September and end in Colorado in November. Check the link above for details.
A$AP Mob is a collective of Harlem Rappers. The list of members is too long to write here. Their most famous member is probably A$AP Rocky.
The collective has announced that new album “Cozy Tapes Vol. 2” will be released soon. They announced the album in June of this year.
