Movie: This song appeared in Goel Cine Corporation’s mystery flick Door Ki Aawaz (1964) produced and directed by Devendra Goel.
Prakash (Joy Mukherjee) lives in Chandan Nagar with his sister, Mala (Malika) and widowed mother (Durga Khote). Mala is in a hurry to reach Mumbai for a friend’s wedding and has to get into the third class compartment instead of the first since the train had begun to move before she got the ticket. Motilal (Johnny Walker) is also in the third class compartment and sings this song at this time.
Song: The lyrics of this song were written by Shakeel Badayuni and the music was scored by Ravi.
The gist of the song is, “What does a traveler require in this journey of life? They require a place in people’s hearts.”
Video: Cinematography is by Pandurang Naik.
The video opens with Johnny Lever looking for a place to sit in the crowded third class compartment of the train. An obese man asks him what did he want. Johnny Walker replies in the song. He tries to sit near another man. But, the man pushes him away. This is repeated a couple of times and Johnny Walker directs all his anger at the obese man.
Even by the end of the song, he does not get a place to sit. The song peters out and the video ends there. Mohammad Rafi Sahab had sung this song as if he was performing in the movie. The voice fits Johnny Lever, so well.
Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Mohammad Rafi and the onscreen performances are by Johnny Walker, Malika and others.
Cultural Influence: This song is ruled by the comic antics of Johnny Walker. The song and the artists are fantastic. The video is watchable for the same.
