Movie: This song appeared in 2016 Dharma Productions and Excel Entertainment’s romantic adventure flick Baar Baar Dekho (Look and Look Again) produced by Karan Johar, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhaan Akhtar and directed by Nitya Mehra (debut). The movie starred Katrina Kaif, Sidharth Malhotra, Ram Kapoor, etc.

The movie begins with the friendship between 2 kids – Jai Varma and Diya Kapoor. They grow up to become inseparable friends (Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif). They are also supposedly in love with each other. Jai is rushed into marriage by Diya and Diya’s father Mr. Kapoor (Ram Kapoor) also supports them. Without asking him, the father and daughter decide everything, where they would live, his career, everything. He gets a call from Cambridge that his thesis on Vedic Maths had been selected for fellowship and he had also bagged the post of Assistant Professor.

Before the main wedding rituals, Diya takes Jai to the flat where they would be staying. This makes him protest and Diya leaves him there saying that she would not come back again. He drinks directly from the champagne bottle left by Diya. The next moment he wakes up in Phuket, Thailand. He is already married to Diya and they are supposed to be on their honeymoon. But, he does not remember the previous 10 days of his life. Perplexed, he joins Diya and some other tourists to visit interesting places in town.

Post this incident, Jai again falls asleep to wake up 2 years later in Cambridge, as Diya throws a pillow on him. Diya is about to deliver their first child. Jai is so confused that Diya must drive the car despite all the pain she was in. He tries to calculate his life’s situation and he comes up with a blank. Again, he falls asleep and wakes up 16 years later when Diya and Jai are undergoing divorce. Arjun, his 16-year-old son brings him from the university to the civil court to hear the judgment.

He meets the astrologer (Rajit Kapoor), who had been appointed to perform his and Diya’s marriage through Vedic rites. He tells him to live every moment of life. When he returns home, he realizes that he would be dying soon. When he falls asleep, he again gets up 7 years post his marriage. He must set something right. He gives up his dream of going to Harvard University. He avoids an affair with one of his and Diya’s mutual friends. This time he spends time with his wife and children. It is now that this song is played in the background.

The gist of the song is, “O ocean, I don’t want to go to your other coast. Stop the boat midstream. This is because my beloved has come.”

The video opens with Sidharth Malhotra coming out of Cambridge University. He is talking on his mobile as he comes out. In the next shot, he is with his son Arjun at the football match. The gist of the video is how he juggles the requirements of his entire family within the given limited time. The song begins in the background.

Next, he changes his dress to be with Katrina Kaif for the opening of her art show. As they come back to enter their home, Katrina Kaif gets a surprise party from all their family and friends. Katrina Kaif’s father Ram Kapoor is also present there with the kids. Soon, the song peters out and the video also ends there.

Cultural Influence: There is no cultural influence attributed to this typically filmi song. But, the lyrics are almost as good as those of yore. The video is watchable for the song and the artists.
