Movie: This song appeared in 2011 Excel Entertainment’s comic drama Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (You have got One Life) produced by Farhaan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani and directed by Zoya Akhtar. The movie starred Hritik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Farhaan Akhtar, Katrina Kaif, Kalki Koechlin, Ariadna Cabrol, Dipti Naval, Naseeruddin Shah, etc.
Arjun (Hritik Roshan), Kabir (Abhay Deol) and Imraan (Farhaan Akhtar) are inseparable friends. They plan a trip to Spain where each of the friends would have chosen a dangerous sport for the group to take part in. Their first sports event is scuba diving and their instructor is Laila (Katrina Kaif). Post a session of scuba diving and a brief halt in Bunol for the La Tomatina festival, Arjun and Laila come closer to each other.
When the friends take on a further journey toward their second destination, Laila follows them on a bike and catches up with them. Arjun and Laila have realized that they are attracted to each other and soon after she leaves, one of their practical jokes backfires on the 3 friends and they land in jail. Imraan’s biological father (Naseeruddin Shah) bails them out. Imraan has a saddening conversation with his father and realizes that his father did not want to take his son’s responsibility then and the same thing was true of now.
In the meantime, Kabir has an altercation with his now possessive fiancé Natasha (Kalki Koechlin) and blurts out to his friends that he did not have the intention of proposing when he did. After some dinner at a hotel, Kabir returns to his hotel room and this song is heard in the background.
Song: The music of this song was composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and the lyrics were penned by Javed Akhtar.
The gist of the song is, “It’s late. But, I have learned to live. In whichever way the day goes by, I have learnt to live.”
Video: Cinematography is by Carlos Catalan.
The video opens with Abhay Deol looking at the suit styles sent by Kalki Koechlin for their wedding. The music has already begun. In Hritik Roshan’s room, he calls out to Katrina Kaif as he is pouring out a goblet of alcohol for himself. He tells her to come closer. She goes and sits on his lap.
Farhaan Akhtar is talking to his mother Dipti Naval, who is still in India. He tells her about his meeting with his biological father (Naseeruddin Shah). The song is going on in the background. Abhay Deol is seen having some whiskey. Farhaan Akhtar staples a picture postcard of the place in a notebook. On the next page, he sketches a bull.
By then, Hritik Roshan and Katrina Kaif have gone to bed together. Farhaan Akhtar has fallen asleep on his bed with sketching tools lying on his side. Abhay Deol is lying on the sofa in his room awake. In the morning, he gets up from the sofa. Hritik Roshan has woken up, now and puts on his shirt over his trousers.
Farhaan Akhtar puts on his shoes. All the 3 friends come out of their rooms and go out together. The song peters out and the video ends there.
Artists: The playback of this song was sung by Shankar Mahadevan and the onscreen performances are by Hritik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Farhaan Akhtar and others.
Cultural Influence: This is a simple filmi song in which the 3 lead artists ruminate on what they will do after the last sports event is over. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same. The picturization is also a little different.
