Movie: This song appeared in 2010 super hit Arbaaz Khan Productions’ action movie Dabangg (Fearless) directed by Abhinav Kashyap and produced by Arbaaz Khan. The movie starred Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha (debut), Om Puri, Dimple Kapadia, late Vinod Khanna, Anupam Kher, Mahesh Manjrekar, Arbaaz Khan, Mahie Gill, Sonu Sood, etc.

The main protagonist is Chulbul Pandey (Salman Khan). He lives with his half-brother Makhanchan ‘Makkhi’ (Arbaaz Khan), stepfather Prajapati Pandey (Vinod Khanna) and mother Naina Devi (Dimple Kapadia) in Laalgunj, Uttar Pradesh. Though he has a troubled relationship with his stepfather and stepbrother, he works hard to become a policeman. Chulbul calls himself ‘Robinhood’ and still stays with his family. Makkhi falls in love with Nirmala (Mahie Gill). But, her father Masterji (TinuAnand) is against the alliance.

On the other hand, Chulbul meets a poor potter Rajjo (Sonakshi Sinha) during an encounter and falls in love with her. He finds out that her father (Mahesh Manjrekar) is a drunkard and arrests him on charges of attempted rape. Rajjo visits the police station and proves that her father would not rape anyone. It is at this time that Chulbul and his police officials sing this song.

Song: Lyrics are by Jalees Sherwani and music is by Sajid-Wajid.

This gist of the song is, “The bylanes of love are narrow. The inspector forgot about it and got stuck in it. He began drinking from the goblet of the beautiful eyes.” Here the beautiful eyes of the heroine are compared to a goblet of wine.

Video: Cinematography is by Mahesh Limaye. Dance choreography is by Ganesh Acharya-Farah Khan-Mudassar Khan-Raju Khan-Radhika Rao-Vijay Sapru-Rajeev Soorti.

The video opens with the smiling face of Sonakshi Sinha looking at Salman Khan. The actors playing constables begin to sing the song. They are going about their daily activities. 2 actors lift Salman Khan and bring him to Sonakshi Sinha. Salman Khan’s comedy is not up to the mark. It brings a smile on your face, but, not cause laughter, which is essential for a comic scene.

All the actors playing the policemen including Salman Khan begin to dance. Mahesh Manjrekar also begins to sing and dance with the hero. The striking thing about this song is the different formations the dancers make during the performance. Sonakshi also begins to dance. Or that’s what Salman Khan thinks.

Some dance steps of Salman Khan hint at vulgarity. I believe that without vulgarity also songs can make it to the hearts of the audience. Arbaaz Khan appears from nowhere and sees Salman Khan drop the keys to his cupboard inadvertently. Arbaaz Khan picks up the keys without anyone looking.

The song peters out and the video ends with the shot of Sonakshi Sinha’s face.

Artists: The playback has been sung by Master Saleem, Wajid Khan and Shabaab Sabri and the onscreen performances are by Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and others.

Cultural Influence: This is the typical filmi song where the hero praises the heroine’s eyes and compares them with wine. The song and the artists are fine. The video is watchable for the same.
